New COVID-19 cases in Thailand fall to single digits

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Monday reported nine new coronavirus cases and one death, bringing the country's totals to 2,931 cases and 52 fatalities.

It is the first time since the outbreak started in January that there have been no new local transmissions reported in Bangkok, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman for the government's Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

Of the new cases, three were linked to previous cases, two are arrivals from overseas that have been under state quarantined, and four others were reported from the southern province of Yala, where the authorities are aggressively testing the population due to high infection rates.

The latest death was of a 64-year-old Thai woman.

Since the outbreak escalated in January 2,609 patients have recovered and gone home.

Steadily heading in the right direction, and will make it tough for the government to justify continued tough restrictions, given the impact it is having on the local population. The more things can get to normal come May 1st, albeit with a few precautions and provisos the better.

We must wish the authorities well in their battle with the virus in the Deep South, and that they really mean it when they claim to be "aggressively testing" people down there.

I'm stuck with a mental vision like something out of Jurassic Park, where there are monsters trying to get through the gates, lol.

Well let's just hope if they're going to report several hundred new cases resulting from the Thai people returning from overseas that they don't do it until after May 1st.

?

Maybe they now have two orderlies pinning the PUI down while the third angrily rams the swab in the nose.

We all know it doesn't mean the number of tests.

Going in the right direction. It was a fairly safe bet that the number would be 9 today......

Yes, this makes sense. There are 3 days left. (9) - 6 - 3 - 0.
