Is the Pattaya bar scene dying a death?

  1. Over priced drinks. A combination of exchange rates and pricing.
  2. Lack of suitable ‘ladies’. Are they using apps now? Is there more suitable employment available. No real GFE like there used to be, it’s pure business, more punters=more money.
  3. Lack of investment. Many bars look very down at heel, chicken and egg situation, business is poor so reluctant to invest.
  4. Lack of clients. Don’t see (m)any Chinese enjoying the bars, are the Farangs giving up on the bar scene?
  5. Too many bars. There used to be hundreds on every scrap of land. Maybe consolidation and contraction to just one or two main sites is due, like Bangkok.

Interested to hear some views.

Well since the bars are closed, then sure they are dying.

But at some point, when the Chinese-virus has gone, I am sure the bar scene will do good again, with even a lot more girls. Prostitution is mainly driving by economic factors and Thailand is facing a huge economic crises that will last for years. I am sure a lot more women will turn to prostitution to make some money. (Sadly)

Well, if furloughed security guard positions are any sort of benchmark, then https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/struggling-mother-draws-portrait-of-pm-before-committing-suicide/ might serve as a good measure of the price of treating working people as "expendable" individuals.  So - bars that give people some sort of self-worth (however low that standard may be) need to be preserved - hopefully with improvements.

With a heavy heart,

Currently in a coma, maybe 50% will return after Corona and I'm normally a realist as opposed to a negative vibe merchant

1 mongers don't care about drink prices

2 probably

3 mongers don't care about what the bar looks like

4 been reduced mongers for a long while. Nothing new there.

5 always been too many for at least 20 years. Nothing new there either.

As others have suggested instead of starting a new thread you could have read many other recent ones.

You could start with this thread -

Why would you care when you can't even buy a beer in a 7-eleven at the moment, let alone in a bar?

Its a good thing my wife went elsewhere this morning to buy a months supply of booze.

2 cases of rum and  the last 5 bottles of Jim Beam  :drunk:
