News from today's video conference:

The Premier League has discussed playing the remaining 92 matches at neutral venues with players tested twice a week for coronavirus as part of extremely stringent health checks. After nearly four hours, a meeting of the 20 clubs has also ended with a resolve to complete this season, should Government restrictions allow, with another videoconference planned for next Friday, May 8.

That will be crucial to the outcome of the season given it is a day after the Government announces whether the current lockdown restrictions remain in place. If a path ahead is laid out by the Prime Minister it will help the Premier League convince the clubs, players and supporters that the campaign should continue.

After nearly four hours, the Premier League meeting has finally concluded and talks will continue next week over a potential restart date. A statement is expected shortly to confirm that amicable discussions have been held with the 20 top-flight clubs and are due to continue ahead of a possible return on June 8. Academy matches will be cancelled, but more negotiation is required before a decision is reached on what happens next.

There remains a strong desire within the Premier League to conclude the season and the situation in France has been noted by the governing body: after the Ligue 1 campaign was finished early on Thursday, with Paris Saint-Germain awarded the title, there has been the threat of legal action from Lyon. The Premier League is determined to avoid similar action in this country and striking a resolution which suits all clubs remains the priority.

The next Premier League meeting was scheduled for May 15 but it has been decided that they cannot wait that long. The issue of playing the games at bio-secure neutral stadia could be key, although it is understood to be opposed by several clubs who claim it undermines the sporting integrity of the competition.

However it appears to be something the authorities, including the police, are pushing for and may be the only way to convince everyone to resume the season.

^Embarrassing!

Another 674 people died on 30 April and the fools are talking about restarting football.

Either restart when it is safe for those involved, preferably when fans can be present or if it is really necessary (it isn't - its purely financial reasons) come up with a quick solution NOW like other leagues: void the season, or do the final placings on average points, or have small playoffs ONLY for those in promotion or relegation zones where it matters.

Detached from the real fans, the premier league and fa are disgraceful.

I agree with your assessment and miss all football competitions but not the lavish lifestyles of not just the players but the pundits too.

Greedy tv companies and clubs ransomed our game. Time for a complete rethink and restructuring of wages and priorities.

Today's news: The UK coronavirus death toll has jumped to 27,510 after another 739 people were confirmed dead.

But hey, screw that, get the Premier League back on.

Now moved to Monday 11th May due to Government delaying 'Lockdown' plans until Sunday.

Stop it until August earliest and start a new season from scratch.

Or finish this season some time in the near future with promotion and relegation.

Beginning to get sick of the bleating coming from some of the bottom six so......How about ending the season now, relegating the bottom six and promoting Leeds and WBA.

Will give a league of 16, so only 30 games meaning next season can start later if required.....A few problems solved and it may stop clubs promoting self-interest in the future.????

Neutral venues is a bad idea, it levels up the league too much, no home advantage. Although football without fans is a bad idea too, void the season and start again for 20/21.

Totally agree. Those in charge never had any rules in place for this type of thing and so there are going to be clubs peeved no matter what they come up with. The football bosses need to come up with some ruling that should a season be cut short again, everyone knows in advance what the law is.

i.e. Duckworth Lewis in Cricket. They need something similar in football. Hopefully this type of thing will never happen again but if it does, there is no excuse for not being prepared.

They could come and finish the EPL in Thailand. Safe as houses here. It would be like playing at home for Liverpool and Man Utd.

They should just have a bunch of penalty shootouts.

748 Players and coaches tested for Covid 19. Of those, six tested positive from three separate clubs. One player (Mariappa) and two staff at Watford, one staff member at Burnley. Third club not known as yet..........The affected individuals must self-isolate for seven days.

As a comparison, on May 5th, the Bundesliga carried out 1,748 tests with ten proving positive.

Second raft of tests carried out on 21/22 May. Out of 996 tests, only two were positive. One has been identified as a Bournemouth player..

Contact training to start with immediate effect. Clubs agreed unanimously and were supported by players and PFA. Seems like 19th June is the favoured re-start date. Could be a week either side of that date.

What does it mean for the start of next season?

Not seen any dates as yet but September would seem possible if projected timetable is maintained. FA Cup matches will be slotted in between PL dates. The European games are a different problem, especially if quarantine rules are not lifted.
