Hua Hin: Hotel pool villas razed to the ground after sparks fly from burning fields - 160 million baht damage in repeat of last year

Sanook reported that firefighters battled a massive blaze at a luxury pool villa resort in Hua Hin on Saturday. 

 

The fire destroyed 47 villas causing damage estimated at 160 million baht.

 

If appears that the fire was caused after sparks from neighboring sugar cane and grasslands around the hotel caught fire.

 

It was the second time in just over a year since fire damaged the same resort. The resort is in Soi Sawat Mongkhon 1 in Hin Lek Fai sub-district. 

 

It was not named and was not occupied by any tourists due to being shut during the coronavirus pandemic.

 

Staff did what little they could to save items in the villas but flames were whipped up by high winds amid high temperatures.

 

In addition the thatched roofs of the villas and their glass construction style added fuel to the fire. Each villa has its own private mini-pool. 

 

Reported around 1pm on Saturday it was four thirty before it was fully under control. The road outside the hotel was closed off due to the danger of smoke causing accidents.

 

Prajuap Khirikhan provincial.police chief Pol Maj-Gen Surasak Suksawaeng has called an immediate investigation noting that the same hotel suffered a fire last year caused by sparks from the burning of fields nearby.

 

Sanook carried a report from April 21st of 2019 when 10 million baht damage was estimated in similar circumstances.

 

Each villa has an estimated value of 3.5 million baht.

well, it's a hotel, so the "villas" probably aren't very large.

Thais are driving drunk all year long. If you have an accident with a drunk driver, it´s your fault?

They are not supposed to burn their fields. Not just because of fire hazards, but due to pollution. They need to be sued for all they are worth, particularly if they are part of the big business sugar conglomerates.

Unless it was a naturally caused fire. 

 

The article in the link stated that the land was abandoned, not cultivated, and didn't say that it was deliberate or caused by farmers burning their fields.  It did say that forensic police were investigating the cause in view of the previous similar fire which doesn't suggest "bloody ignorant farmers who don't give a s++t about neighbours", to use your words.

The land behind our home was not cultivated, yet it did not stop the ignorant owner from setting it alight, and almost cost many people here their homes.

I know that it said the fields were burning, it didn't say how they came to be burning, that is what is being investigated.  The land is abandoned.  I'm not trying to make anyone look stupid, I'm just making a rational observation based on reading the OP and the link.

The Hua Hin land in question is abandoned land which suggests it may not have an identifiable owner!
