Thai media went to Jomtien beach to investigate after a musician posted on Facebook that a Thai man had run off with all the money being handed out to a queue of desperate people by a farang in Jomtien.

Thiwa P. , 57, said that the queue stretched from a hotel past his shop on the sea front yesterday morning.

Everything was going fine until someone he thought was a motorcycle taxi rider or win grabbed all the foreigner's money.

It looked like about 10,000 baht he said.

People gave chase as the thief ran off but he got away. Thiwa filmed the aftermath, he was notnin time to catch the incident on his phone.

He told one31 reporters at the scene later that it was embarrassing for Thai people that anyone should do such a thing.

"It's terrible - everyone is in a bad way then this happens".

The media said no report had yet been made to the Pattaya police.

Scumbag.
Where are the police when you need them. They should have been in attendance to ensure social distancing, then there would have been an outside chance of him being caught.

If they were notified. Jomtiem sounding a little unsafe these days.

And let the Thai bashing commence......This would happen at any giving city anywhere in today's world not only in Asia and in Thailand.

That doesn't make the scum who snatch the money any less scummy...  When reading 'citiyanywherevisa.com' and reading of such news you could comment that this also occurs in Thailand !!!!

This article is about Pattaya, Thailand and not "any giving city anywhere...". That being said, it is a pathetic act, and yes, pathetic if it happened in any city.

The video commentary says the ' falang ' was giving people 1000 baht when the thief made of with all the money.....10,000 ???

So....10 people get a thousand each ??

The ' facts ' don't fit the picture.

If the money is not returned stop give out donatons.  This is a type case of some greddy  lowlife Thai doing what they do best.

It's a no-brainer in Thailand. Tell all the 'recipients' that the money is lost and that donations can only continue if the money is recovered. - They will find the perpetrator! Let them deal with him.

Cue the 'Taxi Story', of a driver who finds and returns millions of baht to the tourist who left the money in a taxi.....

Smiles and laughs all round, the worlds wrongs have been righted, equilibrium returned !!!

partially right. due to the current situation the found value will only be around 90k. times are tough even for bags of money in taxi leavers.

Never stand near the road holding money or other valuables, m/c snatching is rife in Asia.

(I was taught this in Phnom Penh, when a guy on a m/c tried, and failed, to snatch my phone)

but nowhere near as bad as south america, i traveled all over, some countries fine but peru and equador were horrendous for grab and run theft and muggings, everything from sunglasses and shoes stolen from people just walking on the city street to more valuable items grabbed from restaurant/coffee shop tables. never  seen anything like that in asia. thankfully.

Much more desperate in South America or Africa than SE Asia...

People in thailand have access to food and shelter...Plus warm/hot weather...

All these people in lines are just optimistic in getting a free handout...it’s just human nature...

Same city; same MO.  Two guys on a bike tried for my Thai wife's necklace.  She was too quick for them.  They did not give up and U-turned onto the opposite side of the road; considering another attempt before deciding we were now en garde and discretion overtook them.
