Change is a comin

There is no doubt that all over the world things are going to change some for the good and some for the bad.

People are going to be a little more germaphobic.

Governments that had tight control or control over the people are going to force more control.

Governments that thought they were a democracy are going to find out that the people now see the truth.

Businesses are going to be forced to start rebuilding in their home  countries and not let other countries control everything they have or say or do.

Covid showed us more than a lot of people in business wanted us to see.  The fact that China could decide whether a state like Florida could get equipment instead of the AMERICAN company selling to other countries.

It used to be that currency and oil were the big determiners.  Countries that were dependent on oil for the Middle east had to tow the line.  Now we see it is medicines and medical equipment as well as manufacturing that have become the power sources.  Imagine right now if China decided that it no longer wanted to supply any medical products to the rest of the world or the U.S. for that matter.  Yes, the U.S. would recover but how many would die?

International groups like the WHO have shown that they are not immune from the influence of other countries and the resources they provide.

Things he that were changing may have a faster rate of change.

We have already seen the youth voice their concerns with the election of the new parties and the demise(?) of some of the old. The youth understand what they want and although the changes in the next election would have been interesting the actions of Governments during this time is going to have a lot to say about what happens in each country.

A couple of years ago I would have agreed with people that things will not change in our lives BUT talking to a lot of the younger people 16 and older they are also learning a lot on the computer.  Hong Kong for instance was an eye opener.  They see what other countries have and what they are missing.  They see the corruption and how it is only hurting them.  They see how useless going to a Thai university is if they at all want to aspire to be hired or working for large international companies in more than secretarial positions at low wages.

The challenge right now is that the people with the money and influence are not willing to let things get better for the people.  Just look at the new parties that ran in the last election.  If they at all rose to prominence or seemed to be against what the old money wanted they have been removed or neutered.

I think that the biggest fear that the people at the top have is the next election.  People are going to still be feeling the loss of jobs the economy will still be hurting because international tourism will not be back as big as it was for a long time.  Students are going to graduate from universities with costly degrees and no jobs to pay off all the debt that they accrued while doing so. People that had good businesses that provided for their family are going to be ruined.

Countries that depended on tourism are going to have to change and look at ways to attract different people to their countries be it through businesses or families.

We have come to a time that the BOOMER GEN is dying off.

More of the old guard will be dying off and more younger voters coming into the system.  Also the younger ones are now sharing their voice at all levels.

Yes these are going to be scary times for all no matter where you are or where you come from.

As a FARANG all we can do is sit on the sidelines put our feet up, grab a couple of pops and some popcorn and watch.

OH YEAH

Nah.. in time the Covid fiasco will be but a memory like the previous others viruses, pandemics and what'not that "shook the world" and now no one hardly remember what they were...

No doubt about it. This world will barely be recognizable after this thing is finished. Will take some time to see how this all shakes out, but it is my opinion that the economic fallout from the inane economic shutdown, is going to be 200 times worse than Covid itself, and the recovery "ramp up" will be long and excruciating. Far longer than they say. It will not just bounce back. In the history of the world, as far as we know, there has never been a deliberate worldwide economic shutdown. It is light years beyond dumb. The "slowdown" will last well into 2021, for certain. And some industries may never come back, or will be a pale shadow of their former selves. No doubt homelessness will skyrocket in the US. Tourism in Thailand will never recover to even close to it's former levels, and that leaves millions out of work.

What about concerts? Will people be willing to hang out with crowds of 20,000, at a cost of hundreds of dollars for a crappy seat? Same with sports. Will people be willing to go into a stadium or an arena with 20,000 to 100,000 people close together, and pay crazy money for a seat? $400 for a seat in the nose bleed section? $1,000 for a seat to see Hamilton on Broadway? In LA, people were paying $1,000 each for a 10th row seat, to see an NBA game! Movie theaters? Cruise ships? Will the hordes just start descending on restaurants again, and pay high prices for a gourmet meal? The list goes on, and on and on. Nobody knows how the restart is going to happen, what it is going to look like, how long it is going to take, and how many millions of businesses will simply never reopen.

And in the end, hundreds millions worldwide could end up far poorer than they were before. And tens of millions could end up starving to death, compared to perhaps 400,000 or so total deaths worldwide from Covid. OK. The rich stay safe and financially secure. So do the government workers. And the rest of us? And those of us who are self employed, without fortunes in the bank? There are so many unanswered questions, it boggles the mind. One thing is for certain. Thailand will be feeling the effects of this for a very, very long time. So will the rest of the world.

Tourism here will be decimated for the next couple of years. The people who are the target crowd for Thailand (lower and lower middle income folks) are the ones who were hurt the most.

I can not for the life of me see any great changes coming from the "Facebook Generation" here in Thailand.  Apart from a very small minority of the wealthy well educated Bangkok middle class youth, most Thais seem more obsessed with selfies, TikTok and taking pictures of food.  Sadly the State education is so dire they simply don't have the tools to understand what must be done, or what other countries went through 100 years ago to free themselves.  Two World wars which many Thais have no comprehension of!!

The above, the young political active intelligentsia here, as is the case in the UK and elsewhere shift their political alliances and idiology as they get older.  And get trapped in the social mobility of the World.

Werent we all socialist anti establishment in our long distant youth?  Remember listening to The Clash, The Specials and The Jam (if your British).  Now I feel a total traitor a "sell out" to that idea, with my property portfolio, private pension, stocks and shares, early retirement in "paradise" etc etc.

Sadly and very unfortunate for the youth, my kids also - the powers that be, the Global Elite, the NWO, call them whatever, they've done a great job, we are doomed to this spiral tap.  I cannot see any means that this will ever change, maybe it gets worse.

Change is coming for this website more likely, it is clearly dying off + there are better ways to display key visa information.

You lost mate?, Always will be plenty of info and stories to be discussed.  What started out as a space to discuss Visa issues has morphed into what this is today.  The Nation and TV are now joined at the hip and information is delivered as well as transliterated news stories.  Better think again about this site dying off.....The fact is that is has grown even more during this Covid crisis as people have turned here to gather info or to discuss what is happening.  Maybe just not your bailiwick.

A few months of pandemic and lockdowns are not enough to change the world.

It could happen if there was a second wave of infections and new lockdowns, but that is unlikely.

Those who rule the world, governments and oligarchs, are morally and financially so corrupt that even on their deathbed they would be trying to make more money, while planning for their last orgy.

Meanwhile, the populace that they rule has been totally brainwashed, first with TV, then with social networks, helped by a decadent school system.

The pandemic has been used as a test, and the results are not encouraging for those hoping for change.

Millions upon millions of jobs have been lost, but the masses have been kept under control with a few breadcrumbs.

Meanwhile the billionaire/oligarchs have done fine, thank you very much...America's billionaires have grown their wealth by more than 400 billion dollars in the last two months.

You can bet that they don't want to see any change, unless it is to make them richer and the rest poorer.

Having reached such a level of corruption, a society, like Ancient Rome, cannot change, it has to go all the way to complete collapse.

So nothing has changed. When we were young the elders were complaining about the youth, and now we're older we are complaining about the youth.

BTW, if you were anti establishment, where are the Sex Pistols in your rockband overview?

Care to expand on your "The most hated generation ever to walk this planet".  You sound like a very judgmental person whose beliefs and values do not line up with what the real world is all about.  Without the Boomer generation, then your generation would not have the computers invented and the internet which is just one of the many contributions, but then you knew that already didn't you and so you believe we are just sucking up needed air and resources your generation thinks they need.  I get it.  You want us to move on so you can move upward, well stand in line for a long time, we will not be dying off for a long time as the last of the boomers were born in 1964, which is where I come in as the last of the boomer generation, so at my age of 56 you unfortunately have a long wait ahead......

Everything is good on my end, just trying to expand some closed minded peoples views, as well as homeschooling the kids here at the house on chemical compounds by making Volcanos on the kitchen table.  Why do you ask....

But I do love the fact that you like the Number of the Beast, you know 666, just hope it is not tattooed on your forehead....

you also created many of the issues facing our planet today. you also have the money and knowledge to fix ALL of these problems yet keep hoarding it.

i am 43 in great shape and health with loads of patience for that long wait. it will be a huge relief.

My country (by its rulings and tax laws) has absolutely HATED nationals going and spending their $ overseas.

If you actually really listen to the politicians, they dont even try to hide it.

As far as Thailand goes, the western media (and other entities) have done a stellar job at making your average folks at home believe that westerners only go to Thailand for cheap sex or to fiddle with kiddies.

(i know-its disgusting)

So Covid is the perfect vehicle to keep the racism and stereotypical hate going and keep folks within borders and under control.

Im sure many places, such as Australia are now cheering that many citizens have been (more or less) forced home, and will now be good johnny-tax payers and not leaving for a good while.

Covid will have its positives, but it has done absolutely nothing for tolerance,

and done everything towards keeping racial hate and distrust going.

And that is a society going backwards IMO.
