webfact Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Video: Who was in the wrong? Motorcyclist and pillion rider take a tumble as pedestrian crosses the road video screenshot Sanook reported on a Facebook post after an accident in Chaiyaphum in Thailand's north east saw two people on a motorcycle come off as a woman was crossing the road. The woman appeared to stop to allow the motorbike to pass but then raises her hand. The media said that both pedestrians and riders need to take care to avoid accidents. This incident happened outside the Ratchanon shop. Here at Thaivisa we are asking for your take on the accident. Who was to blame - or do they both share responsibility? Popular Post petermik Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 Bike rider for sure...bike in middle of road as lady waits for it to pass....bike rider obviously not seen her otherwise he could have avoided her.....just a typical day on the roads here 10 1 1
Popular Post cornishcarlos Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 Everyone in that video is just wandering around in the middle of the road .. No road smarts anywhere in Thailand 5 1
Popular Post JeffersLos Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 Not a designated pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian's fault. She also appears to be under the influence of being brain-dead. 15 1 2 4 10
Popular Post 2long Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 I reckon there's more to it than we see. The pedestrian appears to see them coming, doesn't try to move out of the way, and then appears to put an arm out to knock them off. But the bike also appears to ride towards her (in the middle) instead of past her. I wouldn't be surprised if something had happened before the clip. 9 1
Popular Post ezzra Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 In Thai logic the bigger party involved in an accident is to blame, pedestrian and motor vehicle, motor vehicle fault, motorcycle and car, car fault, car and truck, truck fault, and if you are a foreigner, no matter what you're driving or what the circumstances are, it's your fault... 1 1 2
Popular Post BritManToo Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 I thought the woman in the middle deliberately grabbed the scooter. 9 1
Popular Post LeamchabangLarry Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 That woman is Thicc The motorcycle bounced right off of her as if it was a gnat 1 2
Popular Post RichardColeman Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 Bike, lady is clearly on the line, and just ensuring by holding her arm out the bike ensures social distancing ! 1 1 2
Popular Post KMartinHandyman Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 She planned to keep walking and the bike was gonna go around her to the outside until she stopped and bike was coming for her so she knocked them off. 7
lee b Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 They are both wrong. Maybe they had a problem with each other before and this happened when the motorbike was leaving the area??? 2

Indeed, she should have kept walking the bike would have gone around, stopping caused confusion. 2 1
Popular Post Paiman Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 If a farang would have been involved, there would not be a question. Farang lady crossing the street, obviously drunk and not wearing a face mask. She is at fault. 2 dirty farangs on the bike, no face masks in place and most likely in possession of illegal substances trying to take her plastic bag. I know, a bit over the top, but sometimes it just gets me. 2 1 2
Emdog Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 In most parts of the world that have traffic laws, jaywalking across a street is illegal unless there is a well marked cross walk. Sometimes it is allowed if distance to corner to cross is too far, distance depending on local jurisdiction. We can't tell from the video how far her crossing point may be from legal crossing point, but barring that, I'd say The woman is at fault
cardinalblue Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 No one yields and that is clearly a common problem in thailand... in every situation, there is a right a way...and then blame can be placed
Popular Post berybert Posted May 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2020 Who's to blame. The bike using the road as designed or a woman standing in the middle of the road. Would you be asking that question if they were all on the pavement ? 3

She carelessly crosses the road without a look to the left. Not before she reaches the center she realizes that there is traffic. She doesn't look like handicapped/unfit. Her survival chances in Pattaya would be in the single digit percent range. 3
samsensam Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 people just need to pay a bit more attention, especially when venturing on possibly the most dangerous roads in the world. 1

Right, she just crossed the road without looking only until she reached the middle of the road. Motorbike that did see her was trying to go around her. She is a <deleted> with Capital C. 5

richard_smith237 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Pedestrian primarily at fault. She walks out into the road regardless of the on coming motorcycle clearly expecting the motorcycle to stop. The motorcyclist doesn't stop but anticipates the woman will continue walking out, changes his path towards the center-line to go around the woman, who then stops. The motorcycle has to adjust again. The woman puts her hand out in protest, strikes the rider and and those on the bike fall off. The motorcyclist could have stopped, the mistake the motorcyclist made was not stopping and assuming the woman wasn't going to behave like a dumb tool. But it was the woman who walked out into traffic. 1

SAFETY FIRST Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 A couple of clowns on the bike. How embarrassing, there was plenty of room to their left. Drug test them

kiteman9 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 The motor cycle should have slowed down with the anticipation that the lady was a buffalo in disguise.

From my experience, to cross roads in busy Hanoi, you "raise" your hand into the air and start to cross - believe it or not you will get to the other side! It is a recognized signal.

Drug test them It likes like the motorcyclist had already swerved to the right anticipating that the woman wouldn't stop. The woman hesitated and stopped in the middle causing the accident. Motorcyclist could have / should have stopped. The woman should never be crossing the road until its clear. BUT... thats the way people cross the road in Thailand. Cross 1 half, then stop, look the other way and cross the other half - very very stupid on a road which doesn't seem that busy. 1
