Ukrainian woman found dead in Koh Samui, police launch murder investigation

Thai Rath reported that the decomposing and partially hidden remains of a foreign woman were found off a dirt road in the area of Ban Lamai, Koh Samui on Saturday. 

 

They are believed to be the remains of a 31 year old Ukrainian woman. She was reported missing by her Ukrainian husband towards the end of May after she failed to come and pick up their son. He is a well known freelance photographer on the holiday island who has lived there for five years.

 

The victim had been having an affair with a foreigner, the husband told police who have now launched a murder inquiry.

 

The decomposing remains were found Saturday covered by three palm fronds in a wooded area 30 meters off the road. Investigators believed this was an attempt to conceal the body that was found by a man out foraging. 

 

Medical and forensic teams determined that she had been dead for between 14 and 17 days. 

 

Near the body was a green "Ferrari" bag containing medications, a sky blue purse and 700 baht. 

 

Pol Capt Suphot Khaokhwan of the Bo Phut police said Saturday night that the husband had told them that he had been married to his wife for 12 years and they had a son. They had been living on Samui for about five years.

 

However, about a year ago she had struck up a relationship with a foreigner and two months ago she had announced her intention of going to live with him and taking their son too. Divorce proceedings were begun and a lawyer was contacted. 

 

In the intervening two months his wife had made frequent visits to their house and left their son. The latest of these was on May 25th when she announced that she would come and pick up the boy on the 29th. She failed to show up and so he went to the police. 

 

Thai Rath talked to Uthen Wiangnon, 47, a hotel employee on Samui who said that on Friday he was foraging for mushrooms when he saw what he thought were human legs. Scared by the discovery, he didn't investigate further but after telling his wife and friends they later went back to the area and confirmed the grisly find.

Ukrainian woman’s body found in Samui wasteland, police say she was murdered

A Ukrainian woman was found dead in Koh Samui wasteland two weeks after she disappeared. Bophut police officers who rushed to the spot believe she was murdered and her body dumped at the spot.

 

The body was found in Maret sub-district yesterday (June 7) near a gravel pathway that connects to a road from Lamai village. The left side of the gravel road is a wasteland and has a small canal about 15 metres away. Coconut palms were used to conceal the body.

 

It had rotted until some bones were clearly seen. A green backpack was found attached to the corpse, with some medicine and a blue wallet containing Bt700.

 

Hotel employee Uthen Wiangnon, who discovered the body, said that on June 5 he was searching for wild mushrooms when he got a rotting smell. He then noticed something that looked “like a human leg”. Not daring to take a close look, he dashed home and told his wife and friends. After two days, they persuaded each other to take a look and discovered the body, then immediately notified the police.

 

On May 25, a boyfriend of the Ukrainian woman reported to Bophut Police Station that Olafrolova, 32, was missing. The man has now confirmed that the backpack and accessories belong to Olaforlova.

 

Police believe she was murdered.

She <deleted> off the govt and police by questioning the arrest of the Burmese boys for killing the Brit girl and her friend. They sent her to Southern Thailand.

Is it just me that doesn't have any sense of connection with this women? 32 year old living the life of Riley in Thailand and playing the field. True I have few facts regarding her situation but i've got this overwhelming feeling of "so what". There is so much going on right now that I just can't get excited about this soap opera that went terribly wrong. Must be getting old. IMHO the real victim is the child
