Thai police take down hacker who had just a primary school education

The Royal Thai Police have announced the arrest of a hacker who used information from people's Line accounts in order to steal more than one million baht. 

 

The adversary of the tech police had just a P6 (end of primary) education. 

 

Somporn, 26,was arrested along with smart phones, bank books and a gun at the Sapsiri estate in Muang district of Lopburi. 

 

Using ruses based on voting for relatives in singing competitions he compiled data and Line accounts that he would subsequently use to receive money. 

 

One victim, a restaurant owner called Suchira, described how she was fooled by the hacker who Naew Na said may have only got a basic education at school but put his heart and soul into learning all about IT. 

 

Now the tech police are examining whether he was in league with relatives who held the bank accounts.

Quite believable, considering that the more exposure to the Thai education system, the dumber they become. 

I say this after working amongst the "educated" classes for over a decade

I was a hacker years before computers became popular.

 

I practiced my art on the neighbor's hedge and also in trying to get out of bunkers on the golf course.

You do not need a education to be a hacker.  Jut need to self teach yourself coding and be quick at what you do.  Had a Black Hat work for us on a few investigations.  19 year old computer genius, built his own system.....pennies on the dollar.

Just goes to show. Obviously an un-fettered access to on-line/open learning is a much better option for Thai kids.

What is a hacker? Someone who can guess and try passwords like 12345, a birthday or the name of the dog?

And maybe someone who knows how to fool people?

 

Technical computer hacking is a little more complicated. But with all those users who use very easy passwords and use the same passwords again and again technical knowledge is not necessary.

 

Most "hacks" wouldn't happen if users would be more careful.
