PHUKET:-- Operators in Phuket’s tourism industry have been urged to prepare to receive the first international tourists in months in August as the Ministry of Tourism & Sports pursues its strategy of restarting the country’s economy, Phuket Chamber of Commerce President Thanusak Phungdet told The Phuket News today (July 1).

Mr Thanusak along with Phuket Governor Narong Woonchiew were in Bangkok on Monday to attend a meeting led by Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, after which Minister Phiphat announced the new “beach tourists campaign", Mr Thanusak explained.

Also joining the meeting were Vachira Phuket Hospital Director Dr Chalermpong Sukontapol and business representatives from the island, he added.

The look on their faces tells the story , no great expectations .

I see looks of shock, disbelief and utter dismay at the thought that they may have to actually get off of there duff's and assist people

It looks like they are visiting a funeral.

The could have put a little pile of sand on the steps and have someone point to it.

The whole story is well worth reading, it contains nothing that would suggest the need for a "beach tourist campaign".

"The push for Phuket to prepare for international tourists comes as the ban on all inbound international commercial passenger flights expired at midnight last night, with six groups of foreigners allowed to enter Thailand as of today (July 1)."

The six groups link in the story actually goes to an eleven groups story, none of which are tourists (so called medical tourists excepted).

Interesting find. Only problem is that I think almost nobody here is interested to just stay on Samui and then having to leave shortly after. Hope there will be a way to then travel to BKK.

I would rather stay in BKK, but they can't control newly arrived tourists there. This whole virus situation needs to calm down before unrestricted tourism restarts in Thailand. Maybe there will be air bridges in a few months if the virus doesn't come back.

Not much of their faces to be seen, if it's going to be like this why bother going on holiday.

August - Phuket - Beach - SW Monsoon - Rain & high Waves = Perfect Plan

but the  Baht still under 31 to USD.  it must fall sometime this year. to like 36

Yes! Everything is wonderful. It is all under control. No worry...coming from the same people who created this mess.

In my hometown some of the more cashed up businesses have renovated and redecorated to be re energised for the reopening of tourism.

Have these guys cleaned up the beaches streets or done anything to brighten the place up for the future? Any local expats seen any activity of this nature going on?
