PHUKET: Local villagers in Pa Khlok have rallied together to save a tree they believe is 300 years old from being felled as part of the road expansion of the main route through the subdistrict.

The tree was located on the opposite side of the road from Ban Para School in Moo 4, Pa Khlok, but last night (July 9) was finally moved to in front of Ban Pa Khlok School in Moo 2, Pa Khlok, about five kilometers away.

Preparations to save the tree have been underway for over the past week following an outcry by local residents on social media to save the tree in order to preserve it for future generations.

Looks to me as though it has been felled already  !

Moved, not felled. Reading the OP can be really insightful.

I wouldn't be too sure about that.  Dead sticks planted seem to grow after a while. Here out side of Chiang Rai they dug up and moved an auspicious tree to the grounds of a local  holy spot and a year later it is thriving and budding fully.

I doubt the tree will survive the transplant.

Why? If done correctly nearly all transplanted trees survive

And looks like they made it right here.

You can see they preserved a big part of roots with its soil/ground.

He will just need some support to stay vertical in its new location,

and someone to check its need in water during a few months.

amazing Thailand is true when it comes to plants growing.   it will take an amazingly strong support if there comes a  blow when it has leaves.

Yes, moved from vertical to horizontal. Its about a felled as it gets.

Relocate a 300 year old tree ? Only to the loggers saw !

Look at the photos, you'll see the tree including roots being moved. Read the story, and you'll see the tree is being moved.

Here in the north there are acres upon acres of topped and uprooted mature trees for sale and ready to be transported, no problem.

The tree has no roots. they have been chopped off.

The trees roots would have extended to the reach of the branches at the very least.

When replanted, a tree of this size will have no ability to support itself nor receive the required nutrients to maintain it health.

It will require major support stays just to remain upright while it gradually dies off and is eventually removed because of its danger, then off to the timber mill.

This is nothing more than an obvious attempt to satisfy those opposed to its removal that im sure even those undertaking the relocation understand.

I think once you live in Thailand too long, the obvious consequences of actions are ignored by the falicy of hope and total ignorance.

Its ok, they can hang a few lucky amulets off the trunk and it will grow for another thousand years!

Glad to see you're retracting your earlier comments 'it's about as felled as it gets' and 'only to the loggers saw'.

We'll have to wait and see if the tree will survive.

There really is no need for flaming.
