Also, don’t listen to the nay-sayers. There are plenty of good, loyal thai women out there who would give you every Satang they had in a committed and honest relationship if needed. It’s on the man to find those women though. Common sense prevails here.

Hooray ,a man who is not a loser like so many who post on here about how bad Thai women are ,never buy just rent ,foods awful ,Thai people hate us ,God only knows why the either came or stay here.

I have luckily never come across a "bad" Thai woman or family that robbed me ,i get on with out neighbours ,i lived with a Thai many years ago ,lovely girl ,we are still friends with her ,my wife and I ,my family love my Thai wife and her family love me(i hope,) so many doommongers on here.

Hope this answers your questions, if you have anymore, just ask as getting other people's opinions is always good before making a decision.

Thank you for your answer. I heard in Thai culture rich people kind of have to provide to poor. If you are a wealthier person in your family you have to help your poor relatives. Same applies to foreigners and Thai people expect all foreigners to be quite wealthy if they afforded to come to Thailand. So when you crash with someone usually they ask you to pay no matter who was right. It is just their customs and police will back this side. Is it true? Also may it apply to any other daily life situations? Thank you guys. It is very interesting that you shearing here.

I am not a Thai, so cannot really answer that, however I know that in poorer parts of Thailand the kids have to look after the parents when they start to work, moreso if the child is an only child, e.g. if the child is a daughter, the person marrying her usually ends up living with his in-laws....heaven forbid :)

As for the foreigners well, I have heard that Thai's do believe that farangs are wealthy, however 90% of farangs that do retire here in Thailand, do so on a pension, which is just enough for them to survive on, the other 10% have investments which provide them with better returns to survive on and allows them to sell off when they need to move or buy some other asset, as for family expectations, it depends on the girl your with and how strong you are to let them know that what you have is yours and your business, e.g. I earn money from my investments, and I support my own family, wife and 4 kids, my wife knows my worth as she was with me back in my country for 9 years before we moved to retire here. Her family doesn't get involved, because she has spelt it out for them, i.e. this is the way it is, they are poor, in monetary terms, however live off the land and what the government gives them per month 600 baht for mum and 600 baht for dad (thai pension), they grow enough rice to survive for the year, they don't starve, their daughter (my wife) also provides them with a meal or two per week and of course gives them some cash ( as if I don't know), from the allowance that I give her per week for local market veggies and the kids school allowances, anything left over she keeps ????

You can respect their culture, but it doesn't mean you have to become part of it, your finances should always remain separate, that is your fall back position, give to mum and dad and you might regret it, set a precedent and keep it that way, because if you flaunt it, they will open you up like a can of sardines, seen it many times before to the unsuspecting farangs.

Be hard, but fair, and not a soft Ck

I wish I'd known young and attractive women would have sex with me for 500bht.

In fact I wish I'd known that 30 years before I came to Thailand.

It would have saved me 600,000 pounds plus 30 years running expenses on a Brit wife..

Thai pension 500bht/month.

Most white pensioners are extremely wealthy compared to Thai pensioners.

A Brit pensioner on 150 pounds/week state pension (600 pound/month) is actually  50x more wealthy than a Thai pensioner.

Can you match it with your life expectations on that amount in TH though?

Back in the Uk I knew many pensioners.

Most of them had to choose between being hungry or being cold every winter, as they couldn't afford to pay for food and heating. I always assumed my life as a pensioner would be similar to their life as a pensioner.

But here I am, never cold, never hungry and with a woman half my age in my bed.

My life has turned out way beyond any expectations I ever had.

(Without the woman, I'd be just fine living on the Brit state pension)

Everyone is talking about happy thai wife happy life. What about happy life as a pensioner in Thailand without thai wife? Let's put it this way. If you had lots of girls in your life and you are satisfied about your young years. You just want comfort life. Laptop with favourite movies and music, books, couple of SangSom with coke few times a week, comfortable climate, beach somewhere not far for a daily evening walk, your fishing rod. You know there are few hundreds $ on your account and you just want it easy without drama. Is it possible or for most it is just a dream and when they see first smile they crash in love, their brain stops working and the bank account is gone in minutes?

Good morning Yinn. I totally disagree, in my case anyway. My 11 years with an ex-sex worker has been wonderful, got a lovely step-daughter & son, built a house near her family. NEVER has anyone of them asked for money. Life is very easy, relaxed and relatively cheap.

Good for you. Probably more genuine than than some of the so called “normal” Thai  people you come across ????

Hi IvGeg,

Only loosers pay for love.

Try dating, same normal people.

Have relationship with sex worker will be trouble.

In Thailand sex workers are very low class. 99% Thai people will think you idiot if do that.

You will not have friends in normal society if do that. Her friends and family will want money same.

Life will be terrible. You will hate thailand if do that. You will only be friends with other sex tourist. Sad.

Good luck Sir.

IvGeg,

That's the opinion of 1 (One) Thai, who constantly try to convince the posters here she is the voice of all Thais.

Agreed, amazing to see someone claiming to be an unemployed hotel receptionist looking down on others.

You can't get much lower in class than a 'hotel receptionist' IMHO.

Is not comfortable situation. Cringe.

The OP want advice. That my advice. Will have better life with normal real girlfreind.

Many thread about “Not have real freind Thai man”. This the big reason.

Hey Yinn, I don't think you are my friend, and now never will be because I told you that my partner used to be a sex worker/ bar girl, and very good at both.

All my family, and my ex-UK wife have met her and it was NOT an uncomfortable cringeworthy situation. It was very pleasant, friendly and amenable, and still is.

I shall try to avoid your lovely majority South people.

I generally avoid Muslims as well, they ain't that friendly.

I'm not friends with hotel receptionists either, that's a step down from 7-11 staff (who are required to have attended school until age 15).

That after being married to a Thai and having a family, I'd have absolutely no security to live out my life in Thailand.  No path to permanent residency based on marriage like virtually every other country on the planet.  Had I understood that before I got married, I would never had married a Thai. Too late now with well over a decade and change invested in a marriage and family.  And that could all change on a whim or unfortunate circumstances.
And with that said, I don't recommend to anyone to marry a Thai if the Thai wife wants to remain in Thailand.  Find a different nationality.   The Thai government will never consider you to be more than a sub-human source of funding.  If you can't be milked for money you become so much jetsom.  There is no security to remain with your family in this country.  Thai-Foreigner families have no standing in this xenophobic country.

Several of my pals lived like that, 20k a month seemed to work for them.

I only spend 20K on my life, I spend another 20k on the gf and my 2 kids.

How awfully hot it was. I had only ever been here in the winter months and loved the weather....I could not imagine it would get so hot that I would want to stay indoors with the A/c blasting.

You could be the main character in "Private Dancer" by Stephen Leather. Always good for a newbie to read before committing to Thailand.

I wish I had known that playing aggressive bumper car/motorcycle games was a national pastime and that death or murder are acceptable consequences.

That the roads are not safe for walking much less getting in a vehicle.

Other than that the annoying things are about in balance with the good things and I'm content living here.

I sincerely doubt I'll ever move back to my home country barring catastrophic personal events or serious health issues.

You don't sound like you're having a good time here!

Maybe time to think about living somewhere else?

I've been here years, and it's been great.

The weather was great.

The girls were great.

I've smacked my face on the road a few times.

Didn't hurt that much.

Before I moved here?

Nothing.  I came here on holiday enough times to know what I was getting into.

And, am very happy I made the move no regrets in fact better then I thought it would be.

Me too, I spend more then that a week the British monthly pension sure seems low and lousy.

Well, I said I was content. If I live the rest of my days contented I'll count my life as a good one.

I realized years ago that life is not a continuous string of glorious adventures.

Apparently you are luckier than most people. Enjoy!
