It is very easy to kill the economy and tourism and very difficult to get it to restart Once the tourists get use to traveling someplace else and the tourism infrastructure in the country is destroyed it takes decades to rebuild it. If there was a ready alternative such a manufacturing great. However, Thailand has few other options than to cater to tourists who spend money and create jobs.
Popular Post Trujillo
"On the question of how to prevent a second wave of infections, 94.51% want the Government to forbid all foreigners from entering Thailand..." About 95 percent want to deal with a possible "second wave" in this way. About 34 percent want a total ban on foreign arrivals permanently. I believe that's the way the author intended. Nothing misleading here. 2

Thailand are you aware theirs countries around you who support travel to their countries and they admit they need the outside flow of cash coming into their country. Thai people you better start waking up or whats the alternative have you been thinking about that!

Popular Post Mac98
Best to forget short-term visitors, but for the sake of the economy invite in every long-stay visitor out there. Those people can sit out a two-week quarantine. Offer free 90-day visas, with one renewal. That's long enough for those who wish to establish residency. Bring back expats with no conditions other than the quarantine. Temporarily drop the 800,000b rule. Get as many foreigners spending money in Thailand as possible without unnecessary risk. 3

Popular Post Paiman
I give the poll a minor importance. There is wishful thinking and then there is reality. And be careful what you wish for. One could publish a poll result about the junta taken last Saturday night around the monument. Would it reflect the populations opinion? On a side note; A friend of mine left Thailand before the Lockdown. A few days back arrived in Tanzania to have a sniff around. Myself am considering Vietnam for a change and have been here 17 years. 5

Popular Post Emdog
I'm an American on retirement extension. My take is that anyone (Thai returning, foreigner, etc) be subject to two week quarantine. The catch with that is incidents such as Egyptian military coming in with no quarantine & then found to have virus; diplomats bringing in virus and no tests due to "diplomatic immunity" (virus ignores that sort of immunity) & I imagine hiso movers and shakers somehow get around quarantine. I also do not accept government figures of only 58 dead. Take a gander at this BBC article on "excess deaths".... scroll down and check for here: around 2400 per month here in Thailand during the lockdown. Considering traffic deaths probably dropped, true figure may be higher. Thai culture values making higher ups comfortable over honesty (true in other cultures as well, but not as much). Who are you willing to bet your life on: your decision or government here? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-53073046 4

Or were the papers relying on the fact that it's quite difficult for the individual to prove it damaged his/her reputation if the report was so wild ? Popular Post Sydebolle
I do not want to pour more oil into a very, very open fire but 1'500 respondents in a 65-70 million people country is absolutely irrelevant. Go and see 1'500 hookers in any red light district frequented by farang and you get a 100% vote for "let them in NOW". Thailand's population is grossly undereducated (to stay polite) and in order to unite the local crowds you create a foreign enemy. This system worked for thousands of years already; latest biggest thing was the Cambodians with their Khao Phra Viharn temple some 10+ years ago. Bangkokians look down on the Northerners and the Isan folks, the Southerners are totally ignored etc. etc. etc. Alien, dirty farang, khaek, jeck, nig-hro or whatever many racist Thais are calling us, bring in anything between 18% - 20% of Thailands gross national product, i.e. one in five Baht is earned with those underlings from unworthy far-away lands. You should never <deleted> on the plate you're eating from yet Thai people have not understood that. Even if the borders get opened today, nothing much will happen. Apart from Corona there is double pricing, cheating, a complete confusing mess with visa issues being individually interpreted by the officer handling the file. Lazada does not refund money to non-Thais but rather credits a wallet, which cannot be used by a non-Thai either. Siam Commercial Bank blocks transfers of money leaving the country if so done electronically by non-Thais; the (Thai) wife can do it without a problem once the (foreign) husband transferred the money from his (SCB) account to her (SCB) account etc. etc. etc. Make up your mind and do it FRIGGING FAST as time is running out for Thailand and its people. Compared to 30, 40 years ago Thailand has tough competition for the alien, dirty farang, khaek and jeck crown and lures them with all sorts of much more interesting goodies than Thailand. The writing is on the wall .......... 5 2
