Video: Eleven family members somehow survive as pick-up crosses median and overturns - driver fell asleep

CCTV footage from Route 214 in the Prasat area of Surin in Thailand's north east showed the moment an Isuzu D-Max pick-up crossed the median strip, smashed into a U-turn sign and overturned onto its side.

A witness can be seen running to assist as the vehicle come to a stop a long way down the road.

Incredibly 11 members of the same family all survived mostly unscathed.

Sanook said the accident happened at 1.15 on Tuesday and several rescue foundations and the Prasat police were quickly on the scene where they found the driver of the pickup - Yuthana, 24 - crawling out of the cab.

Alongside him were a woman and a young child. All three suffered injuries but not life threatening.

A child aged perhaps about 2 or three was seen being carried into an ambulance. All three were taken to hospitals.

There were eight relatives in the back of the pick-up. These were hurled out all over the road.

None were seriously injured.

Yuthana said they had left Phanom Don Rak district headed for a market.

He suffered a microsleep that resulted in the accident.

Police were on the scene investigating and assessing damage to state property, said Sanook.

Thailand is supposed to have laws prohibiting travelling in the back of pick-ups but the law is rarely enforced, notes Thaivisa.

What was the plate number?

I hope viewers of that video notice the seemingly excessive speed that truck was travelling at. Going to the market with 11 people and 8 in the rear truck bed. Just insane.

Plus, it may have been those heavy side rails that prevented the truck doing a complete upside down flip.

But " Police were on the scene investigating and assessing damage to state property "

I think they should be checking the driver more like.

Unbelievable, what a damned idiot, travelling far too fast, then bang.

How the people survived that, gawd knows, must have been wearing very powerful Amulets.

Doesn't matter. You can't use numbers for gambling purposes if nobody died.

D-MAX the best truck in Thailand

Nope. It was the amulets of Pra Napalot that saved them.

How 11 people can just sit there and not say anything while Somchai drives like an idiot is beyond me, would they rather risk death than have Somchai lose face by being reprimanded??? Is it that wonderful non confrontational Thai culture???

micro sleep - does this mean the driver is not in responsible in Thailand?

or may be the driver is never responsible?

Yes, I got told off years ago for telling a taxi driver to slow down. Also when mentioned that the back seat seat belts were missing.

I passed an accident years ago, 14 adults jammed in a 2 door pick up

After it finished rolling over several times 8 dead lay scattered along the road and 5 later died in hospital

The driver and his inside passenger survived with a few bruises.

That day I learnt something that has stayed with me all these years

Life is very cheap in Thailand and not many worry about tomorrow

Dont, cha love these new words ! Microsleep = Some r-sole fell asleep at the wheel. Biomass = Cutting down and burning forests to produce electrical power, highly inefficient and an ecological disaster. Covid = A strain of flu which has been misused to bring the world to a halt even though it bears no greater risk than regular flu ????

Either that or all those in the back were praying that they wouldn't get killed by speeding.

Raikkonen was at first position, I understand this Thai was dreaming for the pole.

I asked yesterday for a better video of The accident for today...Thank you.

Yes. Happens all the time with minivan drivers, doesn't it?

Sure, that's why countries imposed lockdown measures: just for a regular flu. Isn't this degree of stupidity remarkable? Was the world brought to a halt just for the fun of it? Stop typing nonsense and go to bed.

MORE quality driving  will they ever learn ????  don't think so life is cheap  !!!!
