I've never understood where the money comes from for the Thais to all be buying flash new cars at exhorbatant prices. I understood salaries over here are pretty low compared to other parts of the world so unless they all have rich parents or are leasing the vehicles and are therefore in-hoc for millions of baht.  If so it could all backfire if the pandemic leads to large scale redundancies longer term.

.....or the corrupt, they benefit in situations like this, stimulus packages, yeah right! Great time to be a trough dweller!

Car sales have been at an extremely low level since the pandamic. Car companies are giving out extremely risky finance deals to get the sales going. People who are not affected by the pandamic take advantage of this.

There are many good paid jobs. When I visited many not cheap restaurants during the last months, they were full of Thais. Visit the fancy cafes at the Ratchapruek Road and you will see many Thais they are willing and able to pay 80 - 100 Baht for a coffee.

does the OP Title meaning B grade cars?

You can get new car out from store 4000 bth! So don't need be rich! That are you paying all coming monthly bills if different thing! Now even first 3 month don't need pay nothing, here dont have bankruptcy record so why give a F.

They just take car away if you not pay! Nice to drive new car even 4 month lol

Having just been through purchase of a new car, I can assure you it is very much a buyers market out there, at least for Hondas. the dealerships are jam packed. One reason may be that they were closed for 3 months during lockdown.

In LOS it's handbag 'name' and a car, the rest is superficial, car paid for over a zillion years....????

Have you noticed how many s/h car tents there are around..????

Kinda sounds like the ingredients for a "sellers market".     High demand - limited product.

What about the predicted flood of used cars on the market from the former 5 year first car plan?

Did that ever materialize?

There is a Burmese family that has lived around the corner from me for many years. They live in a shack constructed from surplus building materials, corrugated roof, etc. The bathrooms consist of "outhouses". They drive a 1.3 million Baht truck. In fact they traded in the one they had for a couple of years and recently got a brand new one. The guy spends about 90 minutes a day washing and polishing it.

No different than the USA. I can't count how many times I would be following a Mercedes or BMW home from work and watch them pull into the trailer park (aka mobile home park).

It's when they start driving 'em you worry .. and some should have to do a reverse parking test before they are allowed to sign up for a Fortuna ..

I know several Thais here who earn between 2 and 10 million baht per month. Most that I know earn over 60,000 baht per month.

Heck, seems the poorest in this country are the farang who can't even afford to save up enough to meet the requirements to extend their visa!

And  multiplying  by the  week !

10 years back I never  saw second hand car dealerships  outside of  main centres.

Now they are almost as common as Mom&Pop stores and even randomly present  in rural  now wheres.

Sadly the financing  market is heavily in favor of the  "new" despite the fact that default is eroding the viability  of the underwriting protection franchised retailers are abusing  for as long as they are permitted to  entice .

The upper echelon of wealthy are not  much effected due to relative  inexpensive  costs  for  production vehicles paid in cash for at discounts  via  fleet purchases for  Companies.

If people were to be made aware that the average  cost  of all mass production vehicles is approximately 15 % of retail expense I doubt that the  "prestige" mentality  would be less.

The truely rich  buy into the elite market well outside of that even if they have  no capacity  to appreciate or cope with the capacity of the vehicle  itself.

But that is what makes the wheel of capitalism turn........until it  doesn't.

The graveyards of  consumerism are not so slowly becoming  an embarassement.

Lol. I have to ask....on your way home...presumably to a heavily  mortgaged  suburban dwelling what were you  driving ?

The title refers to 1 million BAHT cars...not dollars; 1M baht is hardly a Bugatti Veyron.

I don't organise nor go to any parties, hi-so or otherwise.

I'm better. I know Thai people who earn between 7.5 and 15 million baht per month. Most that I know earn over 80.000 baht per month.

Not sure why the average salary in Thailand is 15.000thb. I think it is a typo, they meant 150.000thb, for sure.

I agree Falangs are poor, in fact they live in aluminium barracks while all Thais that I know live in penthouses. Go figure!

Don't drive anything. Trains and Grab are too convenient and cheap.
