PM warns protesters of COVID-19 danger after report of a locally-acquired case

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today warned protesting students to be mindful of the risk of COVID-19 infection at congested protest sites, citing a report of the first case, in several months, of a locally-transmitted infection.

The reported new case is a Thai who returned home after completing the mandatory 14-day state quarantine and subsequently tested positive for the virus. Health officials have been trying to ascertain whether he is actually infected.

The Prime Minister’s warning coincides with increased anti-government sentiment among students, which has spread like wildfire across the country and into many educational institutions, including high schools.

Oh no, here it comes again. Realistically they are all probably more in danger from him and his regime rather than this CV19 crying wolf scenario. That picture of him says a thousand non said words with that smirk.

So has the long 100-ish day run of no local transmissions been halted?

I don't think so. I thought that they found a way to rationalize these two cases as foreign originated?

I'm sure he's also hectoring pro-government protesters as well, right?

Wait, wait, wait!

How is this even possible, with 3 months of no domestic COVID- case, excellent testing (according to some) and a stellar tracing system in all shops and malls?

"Locally infected" is just a convenient assumption for which there is no evidence.

Not only that, it is also rather unlikely if you look at the specifics here.

As a returnee it is possible his infection was not detected, tested false negative (that does happen) OR he could be among the 1% where incubation is longer than 14 days.  Those are two potential scenarios much more likely than local infection.

If there were local infections many more people would show up sick, than just this returnee.

That's an absolutely cracking photo of Pinocchio

'The Prime Minister’s warning coincides with increased anti-government sentiment among students, which has spread like wildfire across the country and into many educational institutions, including high schools'

What a nice man to show such concern that must be why the little green men are there in order to keep a check on their welfare...

*sarcasm alert for the hard of thinking*

Maybe the elitarian oligarchs should be less ignorantly arrogant and enjoy a trip on the BTS during rush hour. Makes these demonstrations, from a health point of view, a walk in the park.

Quite obviously some higher ups are trying to threaten, scare and rattle the cage - if I would be him or any of his cronies I would be very scared of those demonstrations too - less though from a health point of view ????

They are in more danger getting on enclosed public transport. B.T.S, buses etc. getting to the protests, but these forms of transport are deemed acceptable !

The biggest danger for them is the government, the army and their trigger happy commander

There is a more likely chance of dying on the road trying to get to the BTS line !

But hey that's acceptable.

Disease Control Department chief Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai assured, however, that these cases are not regarded as the start of a second wave infections, because both used to be in state quarantine.

Dr. Suwanchai clarified that the traces of virus found in fresh tests on the two women are dead and not transmissible. Nevertheless, they are being placed under observation in hospital while health officials try to trace those who have been in close contact with them, he said.

Best shut down the mass transit system then, just to be really safe.
