I've been using my Nmax for 4 years and a bit. Time to get a change!

Yesterday, I stopped at a local dealer to inquire about a Yamaha Xmax 300.

* 8 Xmax 300 (red, grey, black and blue) available at the showroom (2019 & 2020 models).

* On the road best price: THB178,000.00 for a 2020 grey one (the official Yamaha retail price: THB172,400.00).

* "Freebies:": reg plate, green book, compulsory insurance and helmet (basic?)

BTW, being told by the sale assistant that the grey and black ones are THB1,000.00 more expensive because of the different set of wheels (when Yamaha TH put a THB500 mark up for these colors).

I think I'll visit a few other dealers next week.

What has that to do with crisis? Do you think that the motorcycle and car dealers in Thailand lacks money and are desperate?

I guess you will have a better chance to have a discount on a bowl of noodles.

Why would anyone pay that sort of money for a girly scooter. ????

Just bought a Honda CB300 for under 50k (5 years old), there's plenty to choose from on FB marketplace.

New they're 120k.

Why would anyone pay 170k for a giant slipper?

The only crises I see is my second mid-life crisis (or maybe this is my end-of-life crises?)

lol

I consider the Nmax as my "shopping trolley"

The bike for real fun is my Triumph Street Triple RS

Specific tools for specific uses!

BTW, 300cc is the right size for a scooter NOT for a proper bike ;-)

Could you, 2 is 1, explain the meaning of what you wrote? My understanding of your writing has some limits

I like single cylinder engines.

My first choice would have been a 400cc Honda Bros.

But 300cc that can do 150Km/hr is more than fast enough for this 65 year old.

Used to have a Yamaha Bulldog back in the UK, 1200cc V-twin.

A bit heavy to keep upright when stopped, and I didn't drive it any faster than the 300cc Honda I drive now.

It's very difficult to get decent discounts on cars or bikes in Thailand, even old models.

I'm always seeing links on Facebook for "Big Bike Sale" and when you click on them the prices are exactly the same as before. If you're lucky you can get a few thousand Baht of vouchers with the bike but you never see 30-40% off last years models like you do in the West.

It makes you wonder what happens to the unsold units. I guess friends/family of the senior staff get them cheap.

Buy second-hand on Facebook Marketplace.

The Thais are all broke and can't make the repayments.

I had a choice of about 10 CB300F m/cs at bargain prices within 10Km of me.

My friend last month test drove a Xmax 2019 with just 900km in mint condition, as new, for 125k baht, why pay so much extra for a new one, it's not a girl that has to be a virgin, it's just a bike....!!! 5555 ????

Even worse. I've seen 168,000 as quoted price.

I bought a new Gray with gold trim 2020 XMax 300 here in Bangkok on the 17th at the Yamaha dealer on Rama 4, now I did pay cash, so YMMV.  I have had Harleys, and BMW's and they are just to damned big for the roads here in Bangkok.  The Xmax is larger and is classed as a Maxi Scooter.  Comfortable and with the larger tires rides great.

The price they wanted was initially 172,000 but after I told him I was paying cash it was 168,000, plus 2,000 more for the compulsory third party insurance, and then the registration for the year.  Total before I added any extras on my own was 170,000 baht, and they also threw in 2 Xmax helmets that he had in the back room, a Yamaha jacket, a pair of riding gloves, and then the Yamaha tube for the registration to go into.  Hell he was even more than happy to give me a second keyless remote FOB, and threw in the 1st oil change for free writing up a receipt for services due.  I then added 1st class insurance afterwards thru Roojai at 8800 baht, and then bought additional XMax parts like the rear seat rest, changed out the license plate holder, added different handgrips, gold colored brake cylinder covers, gold colored valve stem caps which you secure after screwing on with an allen screw, and a Yamaha GPS cell phone holder support.  I then bought an actual holder for the phone that attaches to the support.  Total out the door with a bike cover for when its parked in the garage was just at 200,000 baht.

Call it a girly bike but its just right for a large boy like I am and the GF to ride on the back.  Cruised out to Saraburi the past Sunday and it rides like a regular bike, its just not over the top big and weighs in at just under 200 kg fully loaded up.

Which is odd as my CB300 compulsory insurance was 620bht, tax was 100bht, registration in a Thai name was 500bht.

That was about 3 weeks back.

Why was your insurance 3x mine?

3rd party compulsory insurance was 645.21 baht, registration in a foreign name at 650 Baht, then the Revenue stamp fee and road tax, plus green book fee, and the total for all was 1995.21 baht, I rounded it up at 2000 baht.  There may have been a difference based upon your purchase price and mine for a difference in some fees.  Was your CB300 used or new, as that could have had some factor of what was still left for the year as having already been paid and prorated.

2nd hand.

I don't know what a revenue tax is, it already had a green book ......

but the new tax and insurance start in 2 months time, when the old ones run out.

You might be right about the insurance being 645bht, I wasn't paying that much attention.

Just checked the insurance document, 645bht.

The revenue fee is what they charge for the tax sticker from what I understand and depends on the type and age of your vehicle. Typically for a motorbike the road tax you end up paying is between 400 and 500 baht. So if the Revenue fee is 100 baht then the total DLT fee should be 500 to 600 baht plus the other fees they may throw in when you first buy a bike and register it.  I bought mine from Yamaha and they were doing all the paperwork, so I did not need to run down to DLT.  Someone else might be able to explain it better.  I can never figure out the fees they put together or why.  Its just like buying a flash light here, you have to buy batteries separate.  Not what I was used to in the states.  Gotta love when you buy something and it actually has the screws and a tool to use in the package.

Road tax on a m/c is always 100bht.

your absolutely right they charged me 500 baht for the green book, just broke down the paperwork.  Now I can see the fee scheme is broken out.  If you buy a preowned bike and you have the green book then there might be a small transfer fee only.  Did they make you take it and get an inspection on it?

Apparently Bangkok likes to charge 500 baht for the green book if the bikes new.  Now you know the rest of the story. Enjoy your new ride, is it a naked version or an upgraded CB300.  Just cant ride those crotch rockets anymore after riding regular road bikes in the states, and after having a neck fusion and back fusion, just not as nimble or agile as I once was.
