Police cadet becomes overnight sensation for his good deeds

The photograph of a police cadet tending to an old woman at the stairs of Nakhon Ratchasima’s Sungnoen Police Station went viral on Tuesday (August 25), with netizens posting messages praising the young man.

 

A Facebook user, who had taken his grandmother to notify police about missing documents, said the cadet came downstairs immediately to tend to her as she stopped to rest on the stairs.

 

“After taking the notification, he escorted my grandmother to the car before tending to another old person,” the Facebook user said.

 

Meanwhile, Royal Thai Police deputy spokesperson Pol Colonel Krisana Pattanajaroen quoted national police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda applauding the cadet for his service.

 

“The police chief called on the cadet to continue doing good deeds, adding that this is another example of a ‘good police officer’, who will graduate to serve the public in the future,” he said.

 

“The chief has also called on all police officers to serve the public by treating them as family members, ease their suffering and adhere to the police’s nine ideals.”

This should be in the "Local boy does good" in the local rag not in the headline news of TV.  This is just some BS PR about somebody doing what they are paid for.

Any act of kindness has to be appreciated and applauded. By anyone at any time. The world needs more kind people doing kind deeds. 

 

But, the part about the easing of suffering, and the nine ideals has to bring a bit of a chuckle. Obviously, the police perceive themselves in a far different light than most of us do.

that kind of behavior MUST be normal for everybody. If you don't help a person with/in any kind of distress you are just a very selfish aess of a person and not worth living. No matter if that person wants your help.

People should not expect acclaim for doing what I consider to be part of everyday life.

If you had actually bothered to read and inwardly digest what I said I made no criticism of the cadet’s actions, which I applaud (quietly).

I was sating in a way that was obviously too short for you and some others to understand that in most other societies his actions would be considered normal and not worthy of comment in anything other than his local paper under the heading of “local boy does good”! These stories are often released by the military and large corporation PR departments to the local papers of their new employees as a PR/recruiting ploy. I have had it done to me!

To me it is a sad reflection on the total lack of esteem with which the members of the RTP are held in this country that this thread is even running.

We ought to endeavour to help people less fortunate than ourselves; I don't mean that in a preaching way though.

 

It somewhat ties in with the recent report, on how some people look down on the homeless etc.

 

Maybe the translation is little lost, as I feel that 'overnight sensation' is way too dramatic.

 

However, as fangless mentions in his above post, it may well be just a cynical recruiting drive.
