Does their damage compare to actual damage and loss of sea life from intentionally dumping of garbage/hazardous waste from boats and from beaches/inlets?

no comparison - thai officials Just too damn lazy to prosecute real culprits to sea life....

while the punishment is incompatable with the crime, i do find it disappointing that someone who makes their livelihood from nature has so little respect for it. boasting on social media and chasing 'likes' has much to answer for.

One time I entered in contact with a Jelly Fish, my leg remembers very well... But I just wonder... "have I broken the law?"

A VERY over dramatic Thaivisa translation.

Again.

That is the maximum. (100,000, one year)  (Thaivisa translator forget to mention?)

They will not go jail one year. Sure.

Rediculous report like that.

Headline from Thai report.

“Two foreigner arrested for selfie with sea animal”

= TVF headline

How can netizens "demand" anything anyway? It's the government which makes/enforces rules, not angry people online.

IF happened in Thailand? .. YES

They are clowns, stupid and did wrong. No quesation and they need a slap on thed wrist, as locals would get. However, what about the hordes of mainly Chinese, who have been taken out to National Marine Parks and who trampeled on anything under water ? Nobody gave a rat's @rse, as it was profitable for many people.

the diving community strictly obeys a Dont Touch rule

Ok, now tell me what happens to the beginner diver who doesn't control his buoyancy and spends most of his dives breaking corals with his fins?

Death penalty?

Seems you have a very theoretical view of what recreational divers are.

Dear oh dear, what a funny place Thailand is. You can run over a Policeman and get away with it but pick up a sea creature and put it back you might go to jail.

Remarkable land of cra.heads.

I, as a netizen, feel outraged.

I was having coffee, then I read this, cannot even finish the coffee anymore.

Death penalty!

Life in prison or death penalty for these wild-life terrorists!

Som Nam Na. Tourists wouldn’t know, but a dive instructor does know better. Silly boys. On the other hand the Local Thai authorities Only see a quick buck coming their way. Not the damage it will do to future tourism in the area. If it was a local nothing would be said.

That beginner diver should start in the swimming pool, and after that over sand.

What utter rubbish and so many experts hitting keyboards with their Sh!t! Meanwhile fishermen catch and kill Whale sharks in their nets along with sea turtle's etc, ripeup coral reefs with nets and anchors. Shushshsh.. Dugans killed one can go on and on but have a westerner touching really common sea creatures OMFG.... hang them.... Next time all you do godess are at the beach and see a woman selling crabs or a child picking up a crab be ready report them to the police...

Have you interrogated it? When are you submitting your evidence to the court?

There is documented research and extensive polls conducted as to how sea-cucumbers feel about being touched, photographed of otherwise molested. Their collective thoughts are that uniformed, human officials are poor judges, ill-intentioned and xenophobic, both towards non-indiginous humanoids and sea life in general.????

yes, he did what he considers his job... never mind the country could loose millions of revenue over it. This is the bigger picture plan I keep talking about (like the painter splashes your TV whilst paining the wall during his job but cant see then problem)

they all seem to have or rather not have the ability to see what their actions do.... only looking at whats in front of them for now... probably why most things are in the situation they are now...  (oh, and keep dropping plastic and <deleted> into the sea right?  ohh thats not his job!!!  see?)

Jail for waking up a fish, wow. The minister probably eats fish.

Yeah with hindsight...

A quick trip to Chatachak market and there are tanks full of marine life, which wasn't bred in captivity. It must have made its own way there! If only the Navy had some submarines to patrol the gulf and sneak up on those pesky divers ????????????
