webfact Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Pattaya: Mayor promises "Beauty, Order and Convenience" as Beach Road makeover takes shape Picture: Siam Chon TV Pattaya's strongarm mayor Sontaya Khunpluem is determined to make Pattaya a beautiful place for tourists and residents of all ages and descriptions. He told the media that Pattaya must be "greened" as much as possible to make it look highly acceptable and be fit for purpose. He now has a budget of 160 million baht and will be working on Beach Road first to propel Pattaya into a modern more hopeful era. He promised three key elements: Order, Beauty and Convenience. Picture: Siam Chon TV He noted that not all of the beach is currently this way and needs improvements so that it can play host to the myriad events planned for the area. Being fit for purpose means that it needs to be suitable for all people - tourists and residents alike. And he was determined that the handicapped and the aged would not be forgotten in the plans. He promised a wonderful area when the job is done that will include recreation and exercise areas. It will include ample parking for tourists. Picture: Siam Chon TV Underground toilets for men, women and the handicapped will conform to all standards and follow beachfront regulations to the letter. TOR (Terms of Reference) are currently being worked on and contractors should all be sorted by the end of the month. Work on the new Beach Road is expected to start at the end of the year. "greened" then why do they keep cutting down the old large shade trees and replacing them with puny palm trees that have no root system to hold the soil together and offer very little shade 8 minutes ago, webfact said: Being fit for purpose means that it needs to be suitable for all people - tourists and residents alike. Popular Post petermik Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 aah the good old days when there was plenty of shade/seating and grassed banking where thai families could eat together...apart from a little renovation it was a joy....now after spending millions of baht we are left with a soulless monstrosity...but low and behold another scheme to pour more money into someones "back pockets" once again....have these people no shame 32 3 1
Popular Post steven100 Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Rid the area of all the annoying soi dogs. They are pests. 12 1 2
Popular Post Paiman Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Not sure this is what tourists want who frequent Pattaya? More and more destinations are becoming soulless without any vibrancy and the feeling of being alive. The word #order# in the headline does not look very attractive to me. Below is what I assimilate with order. 20 1 3
Popular Post Orton Rd Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Will the greening he talks about include stopping pumping filth into the sea, or is it just the bits on view? 11 1
Popular Post Nout Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Order? Platoons of uniformed thugs with automatic weapons checking 'papers'! 4
Oldie Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 "He promised three key elements: Order, Beauty and Convenience." The convenience might result in many beauties hanging around there and waiting for customers. But he also was talking about order. Great new things will come. 1
Popular Post spidermike007 Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Somehow, the words order and Pattaya seem to be somewhat oxymoronic. What on earth is he referring to? Does he know something we do not? Allow the freelancers to roam the boardwalk. That is the kind of order the city needs. The gals need the income, and it improves general morale. 5 1

Popular Post Wiggy Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 Beach road is like the Forth Bridge, they finish working on it at one end then immediately start work at the other end. 11 4

yellowboat Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Promises made in Pattaya ???? ? He forgot about making the water clean for swimming. How about not pumping raw sewage into the sea?

Popular Post Megasin1 Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 So someone previously (probably his predecessor) forgot to account correctly for the target demography ! This will now be corrected with a massive line of coach parking facilities along beach road - off the coach, "please don't defecate on the ground, toilets are provided" - onto your allocated area of beach, "yes thats correct please remain within the 20 sq, m area marked by your flag bearer" - 2 hours of enforced fun then back on the coach and you will be rewarded with a large prawn buffet - as we drive off please look out of the left window and you can view a mass of unemployed beautiful Isan women, we have finally achieved the Pattaya dream - Convenience, Order and Beauty - slap myself on the back, dip my head back in the trough and ask for a promotion, all in a days work ???? 4

Popular Post Guderian Posted September 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2020 The last series of improvements involved turning half of Beach Road into a parking lot, while cutting down most of the shade trees and replacing them with stunted palms. I'm not sure we need any more "improvements" from this fellow. <rolleyes> 3
Crusader Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Underground toilets...the mind boggles - and all will probably be flushed into the sea somehow.
