I have been trying to call mobile phone numbers in Thailand from the UK but get only a series of BEEPS and a screen message
'Incorrect Number.' This using Contact numbers for several numbers all of which have worked before without problem.

I have tried manually entering numbers by key pad using the prefix +66 then the 10 digit mobile number. I have tried again
omitting the leading zero but with same result. Dialling from my mobile to landline numbers works fine.

I suspect, but don't know for sure, that the numbers I am trying to contact use AIS Prepaid (Pay As You Go)
SIMMs and that there may have been a change to the numbers affecting all pre-paid. I am currently in the UK. The phone is an Android.

Anyone else having this problem? Has AIS or CAT modified the networks to cater for 5G?

From the Internet:

"You dial your international access code , what ever that number is, followed by 66 for Thailand, then the mobile number EXCLUDING the first zero.

"Just to add; to keep the cost down for whomever is calling you, there are a number of call forwarding numbers which you can use from the UK to Thailand which are a fraction of the cost of a normal international call.

So you'll probably need to us 0066 or 001166  ...the international access code will depend on what local mobile provider you're currently using. Otherwise follow the instructions of your subscribed low-cost international calling service.

Another alternative is to use the same Social Media app (Facebook, LINE, Skype, Facetime, Zoom, Whatsapp, etc.) as the other user and call FREE device to device using your Internet access.

Try downloading the Line app everyone in Thailand has that and you can talk for free. My daughter uses it from England to talk and video call me without problems.

As per my OP, omitting the leading zero from the number dialed results in the same series of beeps. All of the numbers called have worked before using the lead zero.

If it worked before and doesn't now using this exact phone and account this suggests your account has been set to block international calling. Recommend you call your mobile provider and make inquiries into the issue.

One thing to look at - Deep in Call Settings, make sure that 'International Dialling Assist' is not ticked. I had this issue before as this option adds the international code in front of the number you are dialling which you don't want if you are already doing that manually.

On AIS if you not used phone after 3 mths account gets deleted... even if you have credit on it. I fell foul 18mths ago of this, while back in UK I forgot to just top up validity to xx date, on arrivil back to LOS, went to AIS store, explained and told them I was not very happy that this happend seeing I had aboiut 600 baht still in credit on the account... the girl issued me a new No (yes a ball ache) however she did credit me the lost balance to my new account/No So now I make sure if away I top up via my kasikorn account to keep validity running 9remeber the Thai Govt brought this silly extra hoop out a few years back for mobile numbers/accounts

I rhink this may be yoiur ploblam Mister :wai:

If you are in the U.K. and your phone is unlocked to any sim go to your local paper shop and buy a £1 Lebara sim cord then load it with a fiver and call your friends number using 0066 (not + or++) and then the Thai number omitting the 0.

The calls to Thailand using + or ++ usually result in bleeps and squeaks but no connection.

Give it a go and good luck

Ah, sweet mystery of life at last you've found me......

This afternoon I can now call five out of seven regular numbers without problem. By the way, I am using a UK SIMM not roaming on a Thai SIMM.

I have been in contact with my provider and awaiting response but it looks to be a Thai network problem or the contacts personal phone.

Agree, so easy to install LINE and to create contacts (most of my contacts in LINE were set up by using the mobile number of the other party).

I chat/videochat every day across Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia and Germany to family and friends, business contacts, students etc. All totally free. You can also send photos and SMS messages.

Once LINE is installed and contacts installed there is no need to change anything, do any further set up with contact details in different countries. Nothing.

You can also set it up on your notebook. After it's set up on your notebook it automatically downloads all your contacts in LINE on your smartphone. When there's new contacts on either devise the other devise automatically updates the contacts list next time the application is opened.

Out of hundreds of chats/videochats I've had maybe 2 or 3 occasions when the sound or picture was not perfect. Hang up and call again and perfect picture and sound.

It does of course need both phones to have internet access. Not difficult seeing that most smartphone users have an internet service on their phone or can connect to their home internet service.

I haven't done it, but I've heard of folks who (against the phone regulations of many airlines) use LINE whilst they are flying domestically or internationally. All worked perfect.
