Why are farangs rude to each other?

I was at TrueMove today, waiting for an attendant to serve me. Another farang simply pushed in front of me, and started talking to the attendant. I said

" Excuse me, I was waiting here before you". He turned to me and said " Speak Dutch or German, I can't speak English " Or words to that effect. So I spoke to him in my basic German, and he made way ungraciously.

Another attendant came to serve him, and he made a smart##se remark to her in Thai, presumably unaware I could understand him perfectly. I refrained from responding with a very obscene expression in German I happen to know.

I don't get stressed about Thais pushing in front of me, it's their country, some are ignorant, and it happens very rarely. I do wonder, when some farangs feel the hands of all Thais are against them, why they have to be disrespectful to one another.

Was it because he was Dutch? When I was in the Netherlands, everyone was polite. Do some farangs acquire new norms of courtesy when they move abroad?

I find that many of the westerners I come across have some quirks about them, or are total nutcases to be honest... Not all, but many... Thailand is a place for many misfits..

In my experience It’s not exclusive to which country the Foreigner comes from and it’s no different in Thailand to their home countries. 

 

It seems the older people get the less tolerant they become and more chips are collected on the shoulder. 
 

In this instance, seems the guy wasnt aware He was “pushing in” and when told moved away albeit reluctantly. 
No big deal tbh.

I don't let anyone, Thai, or otherwise cut in front of me unremarked.

"Because it's their country" is a very weak excuse and doesn't excuse that kind of behaviour.

"Misfits" might be too strong a word. But yes many came because they believed some bargirl would fill the emptiness of the 50 or 60 years of their previous lives.

There is more hate and negative judgement in this world then any time I can remember.  Just hearing a voice or accent and it seems to create negativity without even knowing the person.

And sadly, it is not going to get better any time soon.

I've found the Dutch polite too. Lived there for a while too. German 100%

Yes I agree. It seems everyone is fighting, arguing with each other all the time. Trolling everywhere, keyboard warriors, & others who just want to 'put you right'.

I wonder where it will all end. Badly, I fear.

I agree entirely.  Too many dorks who dont make it at home, wont change their ways, so come here with the same problems and try to rewrite their histories in the hope they may impress.

 

My wife used to invite solo farang to our table thinking she was being kind.  I warned her time and again.  The very last time was a pork chop who had to show us how he could burp the alphabet, and for the whole restaurant to hear.  Real hit with the Thais.....not.  What finally convinced my wife was when afterwards he explained how he took a girl from a bar the night before and he was so good the girl wanted to pay him!!

 

There are some very decent guys here, some who I have worked with and remained friends for years but I never instigate a conversation with a farang stranger here.
