280 Bhp Fortuner

Recommended Posts

Here is a nice and clean modified Fortuner with a 1-JZ VVTI single turbo engine. This is the latest 1-JZ in production and is as bulletproof as previous JZ engines. Its seen here as a stock engine with its 280 bhp from Toyota. This engine will on stock internals keep up with 750-800 bhp.

This Fortuner has been given a Vigo 2wd gearbox so its now only a rearwheel drive car. As the owner says; Its a Bangkok car and I never need the use of a 4wd.

From what I think, who really does. Its true some Fortuner owners might use the 4wd on a few occations, but who really needs the 4 wd on this car here. Not too many out there who wants to bash this fine car offroad I belive.

Some small modifications to the clutch and the connecting rod is needed when using the Vigo box.

This vigo gearbox will for sure not hold up as much power as the JZ boxes so if modifying this engines more I would go for either the 5 speed manual from a 1 JZ, the 6 speed Getrag monster box from the 2 JZ or the JZ A340E auto gearbox with cool mods as F1 paddle shifters.

If using JZ boxes no clutch or rod mods are needed. Then you need some mods on your driveshaft. Mods like that are just easy and painless work.

In my opinion. Just lower this car a few more centimetres and go for a bigger turbo setup These engines are so easy to get 500 bhp from and are more than reliable. As an example if you dont have any good friends in the business, a 800 bhp setup will set you back some 300.000 B on a 2 JZ engine in Bk.

And for you guys who think a 5-600 bhp setup would be too much. Its all possible and is all about the brakes, springs, shock absorbers, bushings, rims and tires in a proper setup to make it work good.

Height adjustable TEIN coilovers and Brembo brake kit is already availbale to the fortuner so with some nice Japanese VOLK rims on Yokohamas, and off you go!

just keeping your minds busy...

In fact, who needs a 280 BHP SUV in any big icty - except for those who are compensating for something ... you surely know what I refer to. :o

Sounds like an old mate of mine....he used to have the same attitude when I had a 7 series BMW in England and he had an old Ford Escort....

" Why the <deleted> do ya need a motor like that when an Escort will do the same job" he would say,..........

" You must have a small penis" he would quip.........

Some years later his mother died and left him some money, he bought a brand new 635i BMW.

I imagine his penis size was unaffected, but his bank account had certainly increased. :o

As a person who uses a car to get from A to B, perhaps someone could enlighten me as to the point if it's not willy extension? This one is plain boring Gold (or is it even more boring silver?), it's even got the performance sapping roof rack.

The Fortuner goes plenty fast enough on the stock engine (well faster than I want to go).

The only reason I see is if you DO go offroad then the extra oomph could be useful, but that option was removed with the 4x4 system :o

As a person who uses a car to get from A to B, perhaps someone could enlighten me as to the point if it's not willy extension?

So all motorcycles should be 100cc and all cars 1000cc, as they would be perfectly adequate for A to B travel ?

Some people spend 10,000 Pounds on a watch, some people spend 2,000 Pounds on a bottle of wine, some people spend millions on a painting, and some people go to Thailand and spend all their money on a house they cannot own........................... :D

I have a Fortuner and as I also have a miniscule dix, and I want 1000 BHP under the bonnet...

To have the fastest SUV in the traffic jam would be a life changing experience...................... :o

..and some just want the kick of a horse in the back when pedal to the metal! :D

The ones of you old grumpy guys which didnt figure it out by now probably never will. Just leave it. Its not a question to ask nor to answer.

Engine power is hardcore and not for pussies. If you have unanswered questions in your head, take a trip to Rangsit klong 5 and check out the racers there every weekend. Maybe it will sink in but I doubt it will. More likely your tiny little wheenies will leave you with a wet ring on your pants :D

I agree Visa Runner........

Personally I would luv to have all those extra horses in my Fortuner, I know they have enough power in the standard form, but to have the ability to really kick azz at the lights is very appealing.

How much money would the 280BHP conversion be ?

Not knocking the power just the fact that I think the fortuner looks plain.

I used to have a Toyota truck with a 2.5 6cyl jz lump in it. :D

Oh C'mon Dave..........Fortuners look pretty cool when pimped up, as long as they ain't black, cos black get's dirty real quick....( Knowing Dave has a Black Chevvy! ) :o

Drive, and you shall know.

I used to say the same thing back when i was a student and had a then 20 year old Ford Fairmont station wagon.

Then I got a Mazda MX-5 - cheap but a true roadster with perfect 50/50 front/back balance and rear wheel drive - and suddenly this all changed. I could say a lot but only this much: It's way more fun to drive, that's all. And frankly if you spend a lot of time in the car, why not have fun while doing it.

In fact, I think it would be irrational to not try to make the experience as pleasant as possible.

That's why people buy BMW, sports cars, etc. And that's why people mod their Fortuner to 300BHP. Sure, some might try to impress their peers. But the real beef is for your very own personal pleasure.

I would not mod my Fortuner like this mainly because I do need the 4WD for some seriously muddy roads around here and increasing the power and turning this into a sports car would mean lowering it, putting on wider rims, and adding some serious brakes. At which point the off-road capability would suffer. So - I can't do it. The Fortuner as is is just ideal for me - pretty great car all around, but also able to plunge into the mud with authority.

I had a 400 bhp mitsubishi evo7 in the uk, there was nothing quite like a sunday afternoon out on quiet roads in devon and cornwall ,but over here? mmm, an armoured hummer maybe !, and by the way, why did toyota make the fortuner permanent 4 wheel drive and the vigo in rear wheel drive/optional 4 WD ? would have seemed better having the vigo on perm 4WD to me, which one is likely to be going off road ? Do you think these guys saying you dont need all that power blah blah blah have ever driven anything fast ? as a motorcyclist all my life ive ridden pretty well all superbikes including a 360bhp suzuki hayabusa, that was extreme , same with cars ,but my point is power is addictive, and adrenaline pumping, albeit in a car or on a bike,. to all you civic/corolla owners go out right now and rent a fireblade or similar and if you didnt scare yourself witless and thouroughly enjoy get straight off to the doctor for a pulse search ! :o Edited by Wellyoudidask

I can understand wanting to go fast.

I can understand wanting to close your eyes and pretend to be Vin Diesel in The Fast & The Furious; after all who else would pick up those old Cefiros otherwise.

But what I can NOT understand in a <deleted> MILLION YEARS is why you'd want to do it in a pick-up derived, 4WD, ladder frame, diesel truck with a roof rack on top! Go molest a Camry, Civic or a Mazda 3 then! Or just buy that Evo when Mitsubishi finally gets around updating the Lancer & releasing their new Evo.

I don't know why it takes Toyota so long to add 2wd to Fortuner line up. Maybe it's technical issues - 2wd Vigo is their first one mated to a 3l engine and it still doesn't have auto transmission.

Maigo's Fortuner looks standard to me, without any mods.

Pretty much my point, I was very happy with my old BMW 525i E34, looked good, went very nicely and handled like a dream as standard, it's the one thing I regretted leaving behind when I came to LoS.

I can think of a lot of other vehicles more suited to this sort of treatment than the Fortuner (of which I don't particularly like the styling anyway). Whatever, each to his own, it's not my money :o

I my self prefere big power benzine engine, instead of a shaky rattle diesel engine. I myself built a 1975 Range Rover with a 4 liter lexus V8 engine including landcruiser automatic 4 weel drive system. It was the best car i ever had here in Thailand.

Some correction to my opening post as the one reading thai didnt quite get it right.

We talked to the company today and this is the case about the fortuner.

They are actually using the Vigo 4x4 gearbox on this mod with the 1 JZ VVTI so you will still have the 4x4 as before. The optin though is wether you want the 4x4 auto or the manual box from the Vigo.

The total cost with engine, gear and everything is 110.000 B if you go for the auto and 160.000 B if with the manual. They are sourcing a second hand Vigo box and why the price is 50.000 more as a manual is because its hard to get hold of and more expesnive as second hand.

The manual Vigo box will be good for 400-500 Bhp they said .

If using a gearbox from a JZ and you will get a 2 wd fortuner but with a much stronger gearbox able to hold up more power.

So if you go for the JZ box it will save you some 30000 B on the 110.000 B price as they dont need to source the Vigo box and the JZ gearbox most often comes together when buying a JZ engine.

And for the vigo owners you only need the engine itself.

That cheap!!!

What exactly is "everything"? I suspect no breaks, shocks and the rest.

With those mods it could have plenty of breaks even in BKK. But, as for brakes..............
