Because some people refuse to be held at ransom when they have everything to get there and their families and homes there . Why all the hoop jumping and pay this and buy that etc when they have lived there for years !

How is being compelled to stay in a quarantine being “held at ransom” when whole counties are shut down? 
 

Are not Thais compelled to stay in quarantine when they return?

Yeah Thais get it free as far as I am aware . Anyone else pays and has to take out the Covid insurance, tests , COE paper , have correct visa , have good reason , pay flight at higher rate . Bargain ????

La-la land, I came to Thailand cos it was cheap and cheerful, last place I'd go if I was well-heeled. It just doesn't have the infrasructure, well not to support a well-heeled nob like I'd be. Think Paris, London, New York, maybe the Bahamas, flew over it once, those blue lagoons were pretty tempting.

I really think Thailand needs to build up it's info structure more to get more tourists and help the young adults have a better life as drugs are becoming the new norm. With this great weather things should be a lot greener like having parks [I haven't seen one yet] up north. And places where families can go and have some fun together. Seeing Thai people enjoying life would make tourist feel more at home.

Thais have the option of accepting the default state quarantine; which is utter <deleted>. My Thai wife, who by the way also needed a CoE, as all returning Thai do, choose to pay 60k for a slightly more pleasant experience. I myself am in the last days of ASQ as well, many Thais using the same lovely hotel (Movenpick). At just north of 73k for 15 nights, with excellent service, decent food and a large 80sqm suite, hardly a rip off or unfair deal (works out to less than 5k per night). 

In addition I paid about 150 euros for the insurance, specifically covering Covid-19. Emirates cattle-class was available for around 600 euros (although I opted for business, so ended up paying slightly more, purely my own choice). PCR test and fit-to-fly ran me at about 200 euros. Visa...? Was so cheap I don't even remember (50 euros?). 

 

Don't believe all the ranting and nonsense spouted on these forums. If you're willing to do it all low budget, the entire thing can be had for less then 60k (unless you're 100 years old and have multiple diseases, but then again, probably best stay where you are).

For a start, what about the soldier "government" with their $100.000 covid insurance scam?

I thought I read in a thread on this forum a couple of years back Prayuth got a 600 million plot of land after his father died.  Was some buzz in the press about it.

 

So, making the claim "It is highly unlikely any of it was inherited. " is a long way off the mark.  But I do understand the point you are making.  Not too many filthy rich soldiers in Australia or the USA!

Yes, it is hard to imagine a young guy joining the army coming from such a rich family, as you say, not too many, if any, sons of multi millionaires in any western countries.
