Anutin: Protests won't affect Thai tourism, dismisses claims of corruption in vaccine arrangements

Thailand's DPM and health minister Anutin Charvirakul told the Thai media that the current democracy protests in Thailand would have no effect on Thai tourism.

Speaking just four hours before the first group of Chinese tourists were due to touch down at Suvarnabhumi from Shanghai the minister told Naew Na that the tourists intended to come to Thailand and understood the country.

Political protests had never had any effect on another sphere, he claimed, as protesters were in their own circle of influence.

They wouldn't make a difference to tourism.

The upbeat minister also rejected claims from Veera Somkwamkid, secretary of the People's Network Against Corruption, of irregular activity in relation to Thailand favoring Oxford University in the development of a vaccine against Covid-19.

Describing Veera as someone that "goes on and on", Anutin said that Thailand had supported their own people citing Chulalongkorn and Sirirat as well as Biotech-Asia in dismissing Veera's claims of favoritism.

Because there aren't any.

Anutin is right. When there aren't any tourists, they cannot be affected.

Can we somehow put a sock in his mouth? He spews utter nonsense whenever he opens it and speaks.

if that's the case let the news channels open, let the world know about the protests and the lack of democracy and Anutin,  you may be surprised with the outcome

Here they come. Touching down wherever you want to be touched.

Quality tourists. Coffers full of money to be spend.

Is he smoking the green herb already.  He needs to check the history books, as the prior major protests and then the issue which arose indeed did reduce tourism.  This guy is just to Thick to think and research before he speaks, much like this entire government.

As soon as I see mention of no corruption, it tells me there for sure is corruption, especially in a banana republic run by a general.

Is he referring to "the tourists" as in Chinese tourists? Because if so, he's right. They understand autocracy. This has always been an autocracy. But will these Chinese tourists understand totalitarianism? Because that's what we are heading towards right now.

I am sure I read a report from him that Thailand was developing its

own Vaccine for Covid 19,and would be ready about now.

Many insurance policies are voided if a country declares a state of emergency. Some countries may issue travel advisories. If either of these things happen it matters not a jot what opinions a Minister may have.

He must been smoking his own dope if he believe that.

Very good point everyone should read the fine print on there Covid Insurance policies. Insurers are always looking to escape having to pay out.

Why is he even concerned about this? Not his department.

As they say in my country: A blabbermouth will grab any given opportunity to make themselves known to everybody around them as a blabbermouth.

This man is anxious to usher in NKII asap......he even looks like he is trying to bloat himself up to imitate Kim.

He is currently the most dangerous man in Thailand

The 49 Chinese tourists who arrived today are in quarantine for two weeks and therefore not affected by anything: weather, protests, traffic, shrimp buffets..., duh!

Political protests had never had any effect on another sphere, he claimed, as protesters were in their own circle of influence.

They wouldn't make a difference to tourism.

Yes that's right, if the tourist are coming from Afghanistan, Iraq, or Saria, they would feel right at home

Good point.

Yet our FCDO are visiting luxury hotels to tell everyone all is ok in the world of ASQ?

Whilst media is effectively being shut down, political figures are being arrested, water cannon are being used on peaceful protesters etc. Wonder if they were also keen to speak to immigration with the view of trying and influence their policies in light of the difficulties of expats looking to return to the LOS, not to mention how all this might impact on future trade deals.

No lets just deal with the nice easy stuff, now what you offering by way of (free) lunch luxury ASQ hotel.

How about letting the protesters succeed in sending the generals back to the barracks and in old age homes for senile pensioners, and in bringing back real happiness to both Thais and foreigners, and you will be very surprised about the positive effect on tourism, Anutin!

Anyone who is thinking of going anywhere will always take into consideration the political stance in Asia.

His statement is of course politically motivated.

Except when they shut down the airport; except when the barricades went up in central Bangkok; oh and the arson at Central World.  He obviously missed the recent History class.

What A-Nut-in the cabinet!

Anutin is like the Bizzaro opposite of a  bellwether

Anything he claims just reverse it to be true ????

They are enough policies are in place that nothing can ever effect tourism now.  In fact tourist numbers will remain unchanged for at least another year.

Has there been any event/situation/something something that _ever_ affected Thailand? According to these guys of course, this isn't a question for the average IQ range, like myself.
