Thai PM asks opposition MPs if they know what will happen if he steps down

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha asked opposition MPs in Parliament today to make it clear whether they want him to step down or to dissolve the House of Representatives.

 

Responding to a call from Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai, Mr. Chulapant Amornvivat, for him to show responsibility by resigning, the Prime Minister asked opposition MPs whether they know what will happen if he does step down.

 

He said that, if he resigns, the whole Cabinet will leave the office automatically, in accordance with Section 167 of the Constitution, but he and his Cabinet will stay on, in an acting capacity, until there is a new Cabinet.

So nothing will change until the party is told what to do. 

In other parliamentary democracies there would be a line of contenders all sprooking their abilities to the ones that vote for them (other MP's and senators) and in the press. The process would take anything from a couple of hours to a week, however this is Thailand.

As long as the protesters remain peaceful and the numbers keep growing there’s a good chance he will. However if they become violent well it’s coup time again.

All in all i think that by now everybody knows that the anger and discontent of the protesters is not REALLY directed towards the PM, 'Nuff said...

However, the PM put the new laws in place himself that benefitted the other person and disenfrahised the countries people, two things in one.  It is why they are so angry.

So if he resigns he becomes caretaker PM with no opposition until he forms a new cabinet, which could be never.

Regardless of how much power he really wields, he needs to go. He’s the face of everything that’s wrong with the country right now. 
 

He will have to step down. It’s just a matter of how long it takes.

prayut knows the power vacuum that stepping down will cause. in this case it is wise to heed his words as his cabinet and government have been the glue keeping thailand together.

This Government has cemented their legacy as it will be written in the historical records and probably never taught to the school children, as it will be whitewashed.  Every word that comes from his mouth sounds like a veiled threat.  He believes that he is the all powerful man that he is not.  He believes he is loved, he isn't.  The royalists do not love him, rather they love what he has done to fatten their wallets.  They believe in the culling of the herd so they can remain on top without watching their backs.  There is a reckoning coming for those in power, and they best get their own houses in order first.

Very true words, the corrupt need to watch their backs. It's not just Thailand either, lots of countries have got issues with their corrupt governments and from I've been seeing over the last few days, the reckoning is coming for a lot of them.

No,   The Thai people are tired if military rule.    The only people who seem to want the military there besides the milady are some yellow shirts.    The glue you speak of is intimidation and threat of violence.  If you think coups are the answer for Thailand, that is an insult to the average Thai.
