Bangkok Barry Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Has anyone told TAT that the borders are closed to all but a few? And even those few have clearly refused to jump through all the hoops that the government has dreamed up? 1

Robin Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 14 day quarantine for 1 day shopping? Now that is a bargain that few will be able to resist. Certain to get tourism back to normal
P100 Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 TAT makes me laughing every time the fart some some baseess prediction
Lacessit Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 I don't know what the people at TAT are smoking or injecting, but I want some. Even assuming Thailand removes all its roadblocks, what makes them think other countries will do the same? China apparently has just locked down another city, and winter is coming. Sorry, have lost the article in Australian media.
Harry Fingerling Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Quote They are working on trying to get the Chinese to part with their money on attractive package promotions for China's huge "Singles Day" shopping extravaganza on November 11th. Yellow Friday, BLM won’t be happy.

Not some bloody stupid Chinese holiday for desperate singles. jaiyen, I agree and thankyou, I wonder how many Thais are taught about this time in their country. My partner seemed oblivious when I went there.
hioctane Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 These predictions just makes them look more clueless.. Is this to make themselves feel better? To give false hope? Please stop!

They have predicted more than 11 million visitors from the region for 2021. And they are working on trying to get the Chinese to part with their money on attractive package promotions for China's huge "Singles Day" shopping extravaganza on November 11th. The TAT's marketing director for Asia and the Pacific, Chattan Kunchorn Na Ayutthaya told Thai Rath that he is predicting up to 11.16 million visitors from East Asia next year. This would be down 32.41% on 2019 (the last "normal" year, pre Covid). Of this group he predicted 7.45 million Chinese, 1.21 million South Koreans, nearly a million Japanese and people from Hong Kong and just over half a million from Taiwan. He outlined three "hypotheses" that would see tourists starting to return this November, next March and next July. Much would depend on whether the Chinese government ban international travel at Chinese New Year in February. July was targeted as a good time because many Chinese travel then due to the school holidays. Little was made of the Thai government's role though Chattan noted that the pandemic has been well controlled in Thailand. One of the ways that Thailand hopes to spur the Chinese market is by offering promotions to visit Thailand through agents to be sold on the 11th of November - called Singles' Day or 11.11 in China. Packages would be advance payments for later visits. The unofficial Chinese holiday is the largest shopping day both in physical and online retail in the world, notes Wikipedia. Packages would be sold to people that could be used at Chinese New Year and if this is not possible they could be changed for free to another date in the future. A holy place dedicated to his life story, heroic accomplishments, dazzlimg brilliance, and unparalleled contributions to Thailand's peace, happiness and prosperity. A monument to his greatness would surely prove irresistible to tens of millions of Chinese pilgrims...eager to donate lavish sums of money for supreme spiritual guidance. After all, he is the one and only...Hero-General. Yes, a 5 metre high bronze statue bolted on top of Victory Monument, the BK post could advise where to find the best people to construct this.

Jack Hammer Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Once the tourists from these countries are allowed in freefall, there will be a huge spike in the number of the Coronavirus. I cannot understand why the Thai Government is raving on about the number of Chinese tourists coming in and it will improve the economy.. The Chinese come to Thailand in Chinese owned airplanes, get picked up at the airport in a coach driven by a Chinese person, transported to a Chinese owned and operated hotel, mostly staffed by Chinese, taken on tours with similar coach arrangement, taken to Chinese owned duty free shops, after 7 to 10 days taken back to the airport and back to China in a Chinese owned and operated airplane. What financial gain is there for Thailand??? 2
elgenon Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 I don't understand why they wouldn't want to go to Thailand, specifically Pattaya. We all know that Pattaya is now the sports capital of the region. Or, at least, have been told that is the goal. Good enough for me. 1

What financial gain is there for Thailand??? Not this old chestnut yet again. By far the largest numbers of tourists by country to Pattaya (and Thailand) in 2019 were from China. Pattaya was doing well in 2019, except at some venues reliant on Western tourists--the tourist demographic is changing. The Chinese aren't here now and, suddenly, all you read is how Pattaya is a 'ghost town' with so many businesses closed down. If they don't provide any local benefit, why is Pattaya hurting now? Good to remember, also, that not all Chinese travel in tour groups and not all Chinese tour groups stay in Chinese-owned hotels. I think some of your worker examples are suspect, as well. By the way, the same thing happened to a lesser extent a few years ago after the boat sinking disaster that left so many Chinese dead. Very bad publicity and Chinese tourist numbers to Thailand dipped. There were stories then how the drop in Chinese tourists was hurting local economies, and local, not Chinese, workers and businesses. Of course some revenue returns to China but to question what financial gain there is for Thailand is ludicrous. 1
rickudon Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Thai people have a problem with large numbers - and translating them - 1,000 - pan 10,000 - muun 100,000 - seen 1,000,000 - laan guess a zero got added somewhere, or a decimal point lost - 1.1 million i could believe! 1. 1
