OfficeJet 3830

I have a valid abobe (free) account

Ink cartridges certified, genuine,  and near full

Firmware auto updated on printer, did factory reset too.

HP smart app Installed on mobile and laptop

Have tried printing from multiple devices, browsers, from operating system dialog box, from cloud,

from HP Smart App and all I have to show for it is mostly blank pages. Definitely a printer issue the same docs

transferred to thumbb drive come out fine when printed at home office store nearby

All I get is partially pages short of contacting HP for paid support it is about to go in the bin!

Any ideas?

I can't print a PDF file. How do I get it to print?
  • Open the File Menu.
  • Select “Print
  • The Printing window will appear.
  • Click “Advanced”
  • Put a check in the box next to “Print as Image”
  • Click OK to close the “Advanced” window.
  • Click OK to print.

Wortha try ????

The printer cant tell a pdf from a jpg and if the OP is getting 'mostly' blank pages, it sounds like a printer maintenance job?

And then again...

Lots of entries when I do a simple google search:  OfficeJet 3830 issues printing .pdf

...one of them may list why and have a solution

maybe HP printers can. I am only familiar with Canon products but looks like HP have their own, unique idiosyncrasies just like Canon.

Can you open the pdf ?

If you can , print it when its open .

If that doesnt work , prntscreen , save it , and print that ( quality wont be the same , and you need to readjust a lot of things ) .

Does the printer work fine with other documents, or even other .pdf documents?

If not then I'd suspect a printer driver issue.

If it's just this one .pdf document or even a couple of .pdf documents then I'd suspect the .pdf documents themselves aren't being created 100% compliant with the .pdf standard.

PDF are object container files.

If the file contains oddities or was created or edited incorrectly it could cause printing issues with some printers (while other printers, or their print drivers, might correct or ignore the error).

  • I don't think its a printer maintenance issue. The HP OfficeJet produces decent enough prints screenshot and photos.

A header and one or more grey lines. Other PDF files get similar results.

Are you sure the paper size has not been changed?  For most things A4 is standard size here but if got changed to letter it might appear as you say.

Every time I load paper it asks me. Letter is standard in US If the last load was a4 it asks did you load a4? For letter the same.I have tried both. I am US (now) and Asia based so I have a ream of A4 in reserve here though i don't think it is sold in US shops. I get in in Seoul or Tokyo.

But print program also has options and that normally you will have an option to change there - once changed they tend to keep that change.  Mentioned A4 because it is the normal size in Thailand.  Can you print OK using a different software program.  Although on my Canon the printer paper size got changed to 4x6 from normal A4 due to something placed on button and had few bad words before finding the cause.

Can you print the PDF to an image or another PDF first and see if the output looks correct? That way you'll know if its a HP printer issue or not? You could then print the output image to the HP printer?

Probably something wrong with the PDF file to begin with.

That printer should have a menu. Intergral, built it on the printer.

From that, on the printer, not a computer, run a test print.

If that fails, it is a printer hardware issue.

If that prints ok, then it's driver/software.
