Residents of Phuket's Old Town turned out to greet Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday as the premier inspected the area’s businesses.

The inspection was part of the Cabinet's summit on social and economic development in the tourism-reliant southern provinces of Ranong, Phang-nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

The Cabinet announced more soft loans to support tourism businesses hit by the absence of international travellers since the Covid-19 travel ban was imposed at the end of March.

The premier stayed at Splash Beach Resort Mai Khao in Thalang district, where locals and government officials turned out to greet him.

Well, let's hope he gets a good nights rest, he's up early tomorrow for a walk on the water

  • Thousands upon thousands of supporters greeting Khun Prayut,  just goes to show that he is liked by millions of Thai's around the country, unbeknown to many TV bar stool judges ...   lol

So, on a trip to inspect tourism-related businesses, he neglected to visit the province's main tourist destinations (Patong, Karon, Kamala and Kata). Areas that are nearly 100% dependent upon tourism.

Another breathtaking performance by the People’s Politician…

The people weep with joy to witness his holy presence, to be touched by his soothing wise words, to bask in the warmth of his everlasting love.....

....but perhaps even more to to be entranced by the luminous glow of his perfectly cared for shoes…eagerly and contentiously shined by the devoted and loving caretaker of his footwear.

May such important shoes live long and prosper,

Could that be A-nut-in's wife in the photo, bottom right, not wearing as mask and following HMV?

Thousands? Are you sure? Many of those in the picture are police and his entourage.

Yeesh! Desperate times when you have to resort to that kind of rhetoric, Steven.

I suggest that many in the crowd would be civil servants just doing their job. Security people and minders and other ancillary staff that any Prime Minister would need on such an occasion. So in a sense they were paid if they were working as part of their duties. Nothing libellous about that I would have thought. Maybe they were given some free flowers the same as the PM.

Your heartbeat next to mine" ????

He must have spend a fortune in giving everyone 500Baht and buying some flowers.

Not by millions

Those thousand were all supporters he got from the whole country. They name by bus from everywhere. When the number was stuck at 857, they even brought in some Cambodia.

Steven:

Some basic maths:

10 (1zero)

100 (2 zeros)

1000 (3zeros)

That's it

Millions, that is minimum 6 zeros.

Clearly the wide angle lens to encapsulate the massive throng of adoring folk doesn't exist. We can only imagine the countless horde that wish to catch a glimpse of the great and humble man of the people, the Hero General ????

reminds me of crossing into laos and trying to get thru the taxi gauntlet to take the local bus to town in Vtn...

will also accept taxi guys outside swampy-bkk

Is this photo-op part of the strategy for getting tourists back? What is the strategy anyway? It seems we have an endless stream of schemes and cunning plans but few tourists.....excepting those with with private jets. Perhaps now Johnny Depp's lawsuit is over, he'll come and visit.
