BANGKOK, Nov 5 (TNA) – Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering joined hands with the state agencies and private companies in developing “Sensor for All” air monitoring system and an application, in an effort to handle with PM2.5 problems.

Prof. Supot Teachavorasinskun, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University said the “Sensor for All” projected is being held for the third year in cooperation with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the National Housing Authority (NHA) , Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization), Microsoft (Thailand) to expand the network of PM2.5 measurement.

The data from the sensors, installed nationwide will be evaluated with GISTDA’s satellite data to provide real time air quality reports and forecast.

Simply monitoring air quality more closely is going to contribute little towards any efforts in "handling the PM2.5 problems".

Exactly that....

Knowing that a problem exists does nothing. There are already enough stations around Thailand which place it in the ‘moderate’ AQI level today - more sensors will just repeat this.

Thailand needs effective enforcement of existing regulations with regards to pollution.

As with ‘many issues in Thailand’ the wheel doesn’t need re-inventing, it just needs to be made ‘round’ again with the removal of corruption of those factories and industry paying off police, polluting lorries paying off police etc... and actual fines enforced to those who would burn fields and helping them find viable alternatives.

STOP ALL FORMS OF AGRICULTURAL BURNING...job done.

They would be better to install hot stale BS air sensors in parliament. Why can’t they just tackle this straight on in the mountains and elsewhere!

Would it not make more sense to combat the actual root causes of pollution (air, water, noise, etc.) as opposed to developing gadgets that tell us the air is polluted? Or am I "thinking too mutch" again? None of these initiatives help to alleviate current pollution or reduce future pollution levels. More fancy but complete and utterly useless apps.

yeah thatll fix it alright,  bunch of  morons

There's a particular mushroom that is harvested up north in the forests.  The forests are burned to make it easier to find.  A lot of money is made from this mushroom.  Classify it as a class A narcotic & deal with those that possess, trade or consume it the same as you do with yabaa dealers & users.  Would go a long way to solving a lot of the pollution problems.

Perhaps stop agricultural burning and take black smoke belching vehicles off the road and these monitors may not be required.

And I hope they are maintained a lot better than the tsunami buoys in the Sth. of Thailand.

No need for sensors, toxic air quality is fairly obvious. The question isn't how bad the air is, the question is what is the government willing to do to solve the problem?

Just add it to the "stupid list".

Are they still floating?

And then what?

When it's confirmed do nothing again.

they have a free app to tell the farmers when to burn their crops.  Unbelievable that they tell the farmers when they can burn their crops instead of banning it. My monitor goes over 300 when they start burning the sugar cane

The only other Viable alternatives would all involve Corruption and easy money as they are not interested in anything else !

It will when the air monitors are "adjusted" to fix the problem and give out the "correct" readings.

It would be more effective to install automatic sprinklers near the fields ????

The monitors get turned off in Chiang Mai when they go very high to 'save face' and the authorities just bury their heads in the sand. Nothing will change...
