So, if I don't have a mobile phone ? Which i don't. Would I get refused entry ? or is there going to be a conveniently expense phone shop before immigration ?

Every tourist should have a cowbell around his neck so that others can be warned in time of the approaching danger.

I bought one of those for the wife. Nice bright red collar - entirely clean and new ......... but she refused to wear it.  How ungrateful

Copying the insidious totalitarian Chinese Social Credit system seems to be high on the list for many countries, a well controlled citizenry is much less able to object or protest dud governments.

They kept saying the new normal was coming and was 100% true. The all in this together part was an obvious lie. Sadly the fools screaming for masks and lock downs will eventually wake up that they have been begging for an Orwellian State, after it arrives.

They again want to do more than necessary. Why check farangs during their entire stay in Thailand? Why not limited to the quaratene time? Why not copy a working system? Just copy the South Korean system. Not overdone and very effective.

Thai xenophobic approach assuming that farangs are always dangerous even if they did not bring covid inside but they are still somehow dangerous because they are farang. Thai xenophobia.

Shame on you Thailand!

So I don’t get my barcode tattoo and tracking implant ? Damn ! ☹️

Similar to a GPS system, he said that officials will know the whereabouts of the tourists during their stay in Thailand, in case any of them are found to have contracted the contagion, so that action can be taken immediately to prevent its spread.

Will it be mandatory ?

"Similar" to GPS system ? does it mean that the location is made by the mobile network and not by the GPS ?

If only GPS, you can use a fake location app, so at to be always located in another place.

If you are an Android developer, the fake location is very useful for testing your app. But it is a blatantly obvious fake, if it always stays the same to your "Thailand Plus And More More More More" mandatory app. What's needed is an app that runs in the background all the time and constantly resets the GPS value, showing you walking back and forth, back and forth from the mainland to Koh Samui. If the government gives you any static about it, just explain that you are an evangelical Christian, and so Jeeeeesus personally taught you to walk on water. Also note that you are a cult follower of Timothy Leary, to explain the monthly detour on a lunar cycle, to a beach on a nearby island.

You can say you always leave your phone at home.

Doesn't the story on the right help explain the story on the left?

ok, suppose a 'tourist' contracts the virus and the foreigners they have been in contact with can be traced and warned, but if thais dont have the app any thais who have been in contact this person and become infected will not know they are infected and go about infecting other people...

Why do home owners residing in Thailand for long years should go to quarantine for 2 weeks and pay 40 000 Baht. They have been contributing the Thai economy for years. They can be transfered from the airport to their home by taxi controlled by health department  and either using the new app or digital bracelet for 14 days. Don't you think this would be fair. Many expats stuck in their home countries and can't return to their residence in Thailand. It is not about covid 19 and it is not about isolation.. it is all about $$$$.

Something not really needed for the pandemic but might mysteriously continue on indefinitely.

If the quarantine works then why is this needed?

Because the app owner probably makes money, a commission,  for every user in the system, probably a daily commission/fee! So of course he wants to increase the user base.

Wow! Fantastic! If I am on vacation I want to be traced. I want the government to know exactly where I am at all times. Well, not exactly. 5555

Myself!  I think that we should all carry and display a flag on a stick like the Chinese tour groups do

They need something to protect the Thai population from us dirty Farangs who never shower and spread all manner of diseases. This will be a good supplement to the quarantine, wristbands and minders they already have lined up.

What about issuing a ball of string to each tourist, who ties it round their ankle.  The other end is tied to hotel reception!  If they stray too far they can just be hauled in ????

Ah the original string theory from Thai physicists......

This project will require umpteen computers ( all running dodgy copies of Windows 7) and all being monitored 24/7 in various ops rooms, reports being compiled and sent by up the chain of command. Does anyone really think it will work?

I talked to the last of 10 US friends of mine who travelled annually to Thailand for 1 month or more per trip.  Independent businessmen and "well-heeled" retirees.
Thailand is off their list of places to go due to all the regulations. Sad because I really enjoyed meeting up with these guys every year. But the track and trace or GPS wristbands are pretty much the redline that nobody is going to accept.  Whatever.  Really.  What can you say to the government of a country which only sees foreigners as outsiders and security risks - oh, and walking ATMs when walking ATM were wanted.  They're not wanted anymore it seems.  Instead they want jet setters carrying American Express Centurion Cards who plan to deposits 10, or 20, or 30 million THB into Thai banks and buy a condo or two.  Everybody knows that 1 jet setter is equal to 2000 or 5000 average smucks, and the jet setters are Covid-free and physically clean and fit in with the Thai Hi-so.  Who needs the average foreign scum.  Good-by foreign little people.  Go away.  And all you cheap expats men supporting Thai families - you can get out too. You're wives were probably whores anyway.  Once a whore always a whore, so get out.  You're families don't matter.
(You foreign women married to Thai men can stay as you have "real Thai families" unlike those foreign men who are just whore chasing scum.  So don't worry, you can stay and maybe even get citizenship.  Your marriages and your families are special to Thailand.  We'll take care of you don't worry.  And don't worry about being tracked.  You all are almost Thai because you have Thai husbands).
And for those depositing a million dollars USD.  Work permits and a path to citizenship too.  We love your money!

Windows 7?  <laughs>  They still run XP here on government infrastructure computers.  The fact that this entire country hasn't been hacked is simply amazing.

Why not tattoos?  Little foreign flags tattooed on the backs of your hands.  It's worked before for countries that Thailand used to be aligned with back when Brit and US POW were building Thai railways.  Why not bring back a good thing.  No power, no problem.  That ID is still there for authorities to read and heed.

What would be the penalty for putting the app on "your" phone, then putting it somewhere during your stay and using your "real" phone for the trip, picking up the decoy on the way out?

So unless you have a smart phone you can't come in then?
