Four new COVID-19 cases in Chiang Rai as hotels see a rise in cancellations

Another four new COVID-19 cases were reported in Chiang Rai province yesterday {Thursday), making seven in the last week, including the first locally-transmitted case in eight months. Three of the four cases are Thai women who worked at the 1G1 Hotel in Myanmar’s Thachilek and are among six Thais who returned today through the Friendship Bridge immigration checkpoint in Mae Sai district.

Meanwhile, presidents of the Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce and the Hotel and the Northern Tourism associations, as well as representatives of tourism businesses, held an emergency meeting today after several tour groups cancelled their hotel, homestay and resort reservations over concerns of a COVID-19 outbreak in the province.

Mr. Anurat Inthorn, president of the Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce, said, after the meeting, that the private sector will seek cooperation from the provincial administration to carry out a cleanup in the province, ahead of several planned festivals. The private sector will propose, through the provincial governor, that the government allocate a special budget and soft loans to boost the provincial economy.

Panic mode: ON

Bad virus has entered the region.

Cough cough.

Oh dear and after the government has worked so tirelessly to keep the virus out sure to be a statement to say all cases have been detected and quarantined in about 30 seconds ????

Pandemic......really?

a dozen cases or so...wow

how long are you gonna remain locked up at home for.

There's never been a better time to travel domestically IMO.

To me I'd have thought they should be doing that right now, and again before the planned festivals.

My take on this is that if, only if, this pandemic got a hold in LOS it would destroy the economy for years and with regard to loss  of life, well you work it out the Uk was not at the forefront of containing this but have the resources and facilities to throw at it but still they have recorded 60.000 related deaths, with the limited resources and equipment here like new hospitals built in weeks like ventilators sat in there thousands etc etc this could still prove to be a catastrophic act by these few boarder  selfish sh-ts who should be punished for bringing into the country an  act to bring harm to those who are trying to do what is asked of them.

Pretend they are foreigners and start the legal case from there.

We were in Chiang Rai 2 weeks ago for a short 5 night trip from our home in Hua Hin.  I was more than a little concerned at the time about how many Thais I saw during our visit who were not wearing face masks.  Many people at a popular park outside of town the afternoon we were there and it looked to me like about only 10% of visitors were wearing face masks.  Another day we went to a popular and very large restaurant in town.  As we were leaving 2 big vans loaded with young (20 something) Thais pulled up near the entrance, everyone hopped out and none were wearing face masks.

We wore masks any time we were near other people both at the resort where we stayed and elsewhere.  Made me wonder more than once whether the government's lack of testing has given too many people a false sense of security and belief that there's no need to worry about catching covid-19 in Thailand.

Your first sentence is way too long!

The Government is pushing people to travel to help the economy, hence all the promotions.

And I'm very happy travelling during these quieter times.

Thanks to the 6 dodgy girls 'working' at the casino in Myanmar, then smuggling themselves back across the border, tens of thousands who are already suffering, will suffer more.

The Singha Obstacle Course event has already been cancelled , with the organizer and 100s of participants affected.

I sincerely hope they make an example of these girls.

Make all example you want, it doesn't change the situation.

So they entered Thailand officially and were not quarantined?

Tell that to the citizens in Europe. No matter what, they HAVE to go on holiday. And afterwards they are angry because of the new lockdown they caused themselves.

Pretty obvious to see now that humanity will destroy itself.

...and let the witch hunt begin... another case of a herd stupidity, anyone who believes there were 4000 infected people in Thailand since April, please stand up
