PHUKET: A pickup truck hit a power pole on Thepkrasattri Rd northbound in Srisoonthorn this morning (Dec 5), causing a major power outage in the area.

Lt Col Thada Sodarak was called to the scene, in front of the Watchara Marine & Motor Sport Center, at 5:30am.

Police together with an ambulance from Mission Phuket Hospital rushed to the scene to find a black Phuket-registered Ford Ranger pickup truck with heavy damage.

Yes, looking at the photo the headlights do appear to be non-functioning.

Thailand does seem to follow the basic law of magnetism, in that 'unlike poles attract each other' - vehicles and power poles.

With the deployment of the airbags, I'd guess the driver had minimum injuries if any.

What about the driver?

Power outage, too?

if yes: before or after?

Apparently the power was out for a few hours around that area

Pole 1 , Truck 0 ..

pole looks to be made of stern stuff ..

There is so much tension on the poles with no load testing or stay wires that poles far up the road can go twang and fall over as I once witnessed ????

Haven't witnessed a good twang since March...

Maybe , but I think if a farang bumped the back, and the air bags went off, it would be a 20 million head injury

Not in the top ten list this year I guess.

Best I remember was 9 poles or so by domino effect.

It's obviously a high power voltage pole.

No toy to play with.

It's worth to open the article with all photos.

Another parked car got his "ass burned" by a falling power line

Melted plastic rear bumper it seems.

Metallurgically speaking , it may be vehicles and poles here have an affinity for each other. A bit like cars built in the UK in the 60's had an affinity for Oxygen and turned into rust the minute you drove them out of the showroom.
