Chiang Mai people welcomed the chill of winter as frost appeared at the top of Doi Inthanon mountain.

With the temperature plunging to 5 degrees Celsius, locals and tourists greeted the cold weather.

On Sunday, at the top of Doi Inthanon, in Chom Thong district of Chiang Mai province, the first frost of the year could be seen with the naked eye, spread over leaves and grass, after the temperature continued to drop for successive days.

On Sunday morning, the top of Doi Inthanon mountain recorded 5 degrees Celsius. Visitors to the area enjoyed not only the chill but also the sight of frozen dew. They also could see the beautiful sea of mist and the first light of the new day.

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
Pleasures pure and undefiled,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For each perfect gift of thine,
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For thy Church which evermore
Lifteth holy hands above,
Offering up on every shore
Her pure sacrifice of love,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

10 years since I was last up there, now it's quieter I should make the effort to go back for a look around, once the recent events have proved to be in control.

Your "Lord" played no part in frost in Chiang Mai.

No idea. Living since 10 years or so in CM. But never been on Doi Inthanon. 500 Baht for a foreigner, 20 Baht for Thai (or what it was)? No thanks. It's cold enough on my balcony in the morning. Wasn't there a discussion that foreign residents pay the same entry on National Parks as Thais. Any news about that?? Guess not...

yes - no news - farang pay farang - thai pay thai - ???? - my friend just drove in today - he lives already more then 10 years in thailand, married with thai - driving license thai - yellow book - no way! - 300 baht for him (german/farang!) and 30 baht for his wife (thai)! - for me a reason not to visit! i am too proud or not stupid enough ????  - it was some years ago a simply trick, when you drive in from the west on the 1192 (from mae chaem) -  you pass the checkpoint and you have not to pay! - looks on streetview google maps still the same today!
