You've misunderstood my meaning, Trump would have labelled Bernie a socialist or communist.

In Australian politics, Bernie would probably be centre-right in the political spectrum.

I ROFL when Americans start talking about socialism, they haven't a clue what it means and have never tried it. They are also blissfully unaware there are democracies around the globe where elected socialist governments have introduced lasting reforms. Which the USA could well do with, their health system is shambolic.

No problem for me with socialism ( small s ) as practiced in the UK, which is very socialist. The NHS is brilliant and far better that what we have in NZ.

I think the excesses of socialism ( 3 generations of unemployable living in the same house in the UK etc ) is what puts them off. NZ has to import overseas workers to pick fruit while thousands are unemployed and on benefits. That's IMO not what socialism is about but it is what it has become.

Most Americans love Socialism; they just don't know it. (Pure Libertarians may be holdouts).

-The Dept of Defense, where we're all protected equally despite paying vastly different amounts of taxes, is Socialism.

-The FDA, which approves drugs and checks food, is Socialism

-The Interstate highway system, which has no tolls, is Socialism

-FDIC Insurance for bank deposits under $250K is Socialism

-Medicare and Unemployment Insurance, even Social Security, are Socialism, as payouts often exceed anything ever paid-in

Even a 45 supporter who rants against Socialism can sleep well at night knowing the US is unlikely to be attacked, that the evening meal probably won't make his children sick, that his insulin for his Diabetes Type II won't kill him, that Grandma will make it home safely on I80, that his savings will still be in the bank in the morning, and that if he's laid off he will receive compensation for a time.

As with a lot of other things in politics and policy, it's a matter of getting the mix right. Nothing wrong with either capitalism or socialism, as long as neither get out of hand. I sometimes think watching well-meaning people trying to do that is like watching a chimpanzee attempting to play a violin.

I am so grateful I didn't see the following information until now. Because if I had, I would have bet and lost everything.

Pat Robertson Says God Will 'Intervene' in Favor of Texas SCOTUS Lawsuit

Prominent televangelist Pat Robertson described Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's effort to overturn Joe Biden's victory over Donald Trump in the Supreme Court as "a miracle," saying God will intervene to keep the president in office...

Robertson, a former Southern Baptist minister, made the remarks Thursday during his show The 700 Club on the Christian Broadcasting Network, of which he is the chairman. The well-known evangelical figure, who is 90, praised the Texas attorney general's move, touting the unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud promoted by Trump and his GOP supporters.

I get that freedom of speech is important but there needs to be more limits on it. There is no way that peddling these blatant lies, fear mongering and hate should be allowed on social media or by broadcasters on the so called news. People have a right to honest and truthful facts, not conspiracy theories and outright lies passed off as facts.

Agree...but there is simply no easy answer to who then controls the 'truth'........the best way long term is trying to teach people to think....(with no hidden agenda)
