Hun Sen says Grade 12 exams cancelled, all students pass

Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday ordered the Minister of Education to allow all Grade 12 students to pass their exam automatically without sitting it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also said that all Grade 9 students who have already taken their exam should get an automatic pass also.

Speaking to the nation via TVK national television yesterday, Mr Hun Sen said the upcoming high school exams could not go ahead as scheduled due to the community outbreak.

“I have decided to not allow the national exam on January 11 to go ahead. The overall quality of education has reduced a little bit due to the pandemic. We must accept what has happened globally due to COVID-19. Allowing all Grade 12 students to pass will make them happy and not panicked,” he said. Mr Hun Sen said that he expects some negative reactions but he has the right to make the decision.

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Yes, he has the dictatorial right to set back the education of these kids. What a monster.

Not at all - they have all "passed" their exams ready for the next level in their education.

Hun Sen should be roasted over a live flame, he's a Khmer Rouge accolade

Eh, not much different from the LOS every year. Many M6's barely show up to classes or even school at all. It's become a formality at that point. They've learned well in their years prior that they're passed regardless. The "serious" students, with well heeled or connected families, already have university placements and office jobs awaiting. The not so serious ones have family jobs, factories, or farms. Others had already left at M3 for vocational training.

Well, at least it's better than setting everything back to zero year and restarting from there.  They tried that before and look how that turned out.
