I was in and out in 15 minutes, I highly recommend going later not very early like most people, at 11am It was very quiet. I went straight in for the eye sight, reaction and depth perception test, done in 5 minutes, I was the only one. No video

Motorbike & Car licences

Documents needed:

Original passport

2x copies passport main page, visa/stamp pages

Residence cert, 1 original 1 copy

Doctors cert, 1 original and 1 copy

Driving licences + copy front and back of each, because I had lost my car licence I took a police report instead.

I went nearly 3 months early, wasn't a problem. Got the usual 5 year + to birthday

While there I got my green book changed to reflect my new address, upstairs (who received the original residence cert) signed and stamped a copy of res cert which enabled downstairs to make the change

I agree luck is important, the afternoon definitely got a lot busier with all the Thais turning up, I will in future avoid the queuing at 7.30 am thing that all the Falang do

Can you share where you obtained your license, e.g., Banglamung (Pattaya).

It’s very hit and miss on the video, I haven’t had to watch it yet maybe next time. I also went around 11am both times in Udon.

Renewed my 5 year again yesterday.  Had to watch the 46 minute video showing you how Thai's don't drive.

After the 1st 5 year license you don't need the medical certificate any more.

I should mention I first went to DLT in Ratchaburi and they told me I had to do the online e-learning course which is in Thai only, plus they only accept Thai ID's to register.  Then I went to my local DLT in Chombueng and they just had me watch the video.  I went to the main Ratchaburi first because I figured they would be more used to dealing with farangs.  There's only a few of us where I live.

Good one.

My 2 year DL is up for renewal beginning of May. Thought to do it sometimes in March.

My Non-O A is up for renewal end of may.

Will they renew the licence when visa not yet extended or has one nothing to do with the other?

The Pattaya Regents school one

I did my renewal at Mahasarakham a few weeks ago, which was due 13 December 2020. I went a week early. They checked and finalised the paperwork, but booked me in for the static tests on 24 December (must be a Covid thing).

They said I shouldn't drive in the period 13 - 24 December.

On 24 December I did the static tests and watched the 45 minute video. My new licences were for 6 years (I assume because I got the renewal on/after my birthday). I still have 2 licences (car and motorbike). The renewal cost about 850 Baht.

Not a problem as you have a couple of months left on your visa/extension, I had 3 months left when I went yesterday

The video drags on a bit but it's worth seeing once. Early on, the narrator says, "Here in Thailand we drive on the left-hand side of the road..." That got gales of laughter from the farang audience. There's also a bit later on where they explain who has priority at one of those wretched unmarked four-way junctions, but I was nodding off when they got to that bit and missed it so I still don't know, lol. Oh well, next time!

You do!

Been today to renew at the Banglamung Land Transport Office.

Walked in at 8:30 and was booked for 9:30 hours.

On the Registration Desk they have now a Notice up that from the 04. January 2021 no walk ins will be accepted anymore. Everyone to book an appointment via the Smart Queue App.

Not sure off course it this is a Covid thing or if that is the future now.

That must be new, wasn't there yesterday, exactly why I went in case of lockdown
