If people can not afford that, then they can't afford to be here in Thailand

Does that include Thais???

Where are they going to go now??

  • What about those who can't afford a smartphone and/or do not know how to use them? Does the government supply free phones now, or offer classes, how to use them?

I use an old small Nokia that fits into my trousers pocket when I am outside. So no way to use the app. Only alternative is to write your name and phone number on this dirty piece of paper with a dirty pen. In the end you can write there what you want.

But does all this make really sense? Let's assume I have be in the Terminal 21 in Pattaya and I got Covid somewhere - and I am there often. Do they now invite all others that have been there at the same time for checks and quarantines? And how about the people I met on the Baht Busses that I needed to get there? From my perspective a completely useless approach...

Same as those above Thaichana keeps returning 'No Internet' when registering. Internet works fine both 5G and 2 4G.....

I never leave my home and I don't have a mobile phone.

So if I did buy a mobile phone, and use the app, it would show I had never left my home.

(assuming if I were to leave my home, I'd take the phone with the app with me)

Bring only the app that is enough.

It should include everyone of course.

it's only a temporary measure. I really  don't see what the fuss is about?

555. It will never go away, now that they have it in place. MoreChina/ThaiChina tracking software.

Keep trying. I just installed it, and at 2 screens it told me "no internet". Had to retry about half a dozen times on each screen before success.

Well,  time will tell.
If it does extend post Covid, then i am sure that many people will not be hanging around.

Can just buy one for now as it will only be a temporary measure. If someone gets Covid & then goes to many places, they can then trace back your steps to prevent it from spreading and potentially savings lives. Certainly worth it for such a low cost and a small inconvenience!

Please buy one for me and each one of my thai friends who can't afford one. That'll be about 50. Hope it's not too much of an inconvenience to you.

Can't I just get a color coded wrist band like they're forcing the Burmese to wear?

Ok tomorrow I'll collar the old guy who goes thru the bins around my way and make sure he has a smart phone with the app downloaded. Maybe I should buy him new shorts and a T shirt as well.

A bit of naivety in your statement/question.

Temporary - are you sure? How do you know? When will it finish?

Once they download all of your personal data, what do they do with it?

Wherever you leave your app - that's your home. (Apologies to Marvin Gaye.)

There isnt any personal data, you dont give your name or any personal details when you install the app. You enter if you have a fever or dont feel well etc,  but otherwise you no personal data.

This just shows how completely helpless they are. The times they could push cases under the rug like last year and shine are over. Now they don't know what to do at all.

Sure, there are these from reality disconnected "experts" who think they can solve all and everything with "Apps", not the first time we saw this. It never worked and it never will.

Sorry; daft statement; we have a lot of old Thai's living around us who don't have a Smart Phone or Internet, some don't even have a Land Line.  You are assuming everyone is either living in a City Condo, a Palace with a Ferrari or some such.   You have forgotten the Core people of Thailand !

You mean like a Military 'Government' that stole democracy from the people ?

It's not about cost..it's about personal choice whether to own a smartphone or not.

no choice for me, my bank in my country sends me a code on my smartphone every three months to a special app , I must answer to consult my account on my desktop

I don't use my smartphone often, but it will be more and more convenient for many things ( for instance, plan of BTS in Bangkok )

The question of that this kind of app is on discussion around the world. While centralized option can track your phone, decentralized keep safe your information;

I downloaded the app months ago. I use it albeit in a limited way because after I have scanned the bar code I don't really know what to do. Perhaps we all need a little tutorial on it.

What happens in the case of not having an Internet connection on my phone?
I use wifi for Internet on my phone at home.

The app can still monitor contact with infected people via bluetooth, and advise you when you are next online.

I am in the same boat as you, however my reading into this tells me (If I am reading it correctly) that it is for those in the high risk areas:

"Members of the public, particularly those residing in high risk areas now need to download the Mor Chana or Thai Chana contact tracing app, Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesperson Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin announced on Thursday".

So once they say everyone has to download the app as it has been passed into legislation, I will sit on the fence, hardly go anywhere anyway, or get out of the car, that said, when the time comes, will tell the wife to turn her blue tooth on and I will get my internet off of her mobile while we are out and about.

'They'?..'Helpless'..If anything this thread shows how unhelpful and uncooperative many foreigners are, mainly British, American and Australian. The one redeeming factor is that these people, who demonstrate Anti Social Behavior Disorder are not actually here in Thailand.

Definitely use the ThaiChana app (blue fist icon), MorChana wants wayyyy too much personal data (and apparently swallows the battery too).

EDIT The ThaiChana link in the OP appears to be for registration of a store, the App itself is in the Android and iOS playstores.

MorChana only asked for my picture and my phone number. I feel cheated. Can I complain to anyone?
