Thailand reports 287 new COVID-19 cases

Thailand reported 287 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

 

Of the new cases, 278 were local transmissions, while 9 were imported from people entering quarantine.

 

Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin also said 166  people had been discharged from hospital having made a full recovery. 

 

4,035 people remain in hospital or held in a migrant worker quarantine centre.

 

No new deaths were reported. 

 

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to  10,834, with 67 deaths.

A slow uptick, but in line with the past few days and no large numbers in locations.  The day's that should be the hump day's will be between the 17th and 18th as that would give the 14 day window for those that returned home after the New Years holiday on the 3rd or the 4th.  By then if few cases have been detected the numbers should be dropping off I would suspect, or hope.

Maybe, just maybe, everything comes through okay.

As of now, it looks like they might have the biggest of all lucks, even if they managed it as bad as it could be managed over new year. But ok, that´s a good thing and we all have to keep the hope up.

Remaining pretty consistent at around 200-300 - wonder how many tests are being done and what percentage are testing positive?

Testing?I'd say IT'S ALL OVER!

The slow rise in cases over the last five days isn't very encouraging for getting things fully under control by the end of January (though it's better than a rapid rise, for sure).

To put the numbers in perspective, though, 125 of today's cases were found by active case tracing and testing, and they were all in Samut Sakhon. When you look at how lots of cases among migrant workers were still surfacing months after Singapore's outbreak started in April, maybe that sort of statistic will become the new normal, but nothing to be too alarmed about as they should all be locked away in their dormitories, or wherever they live. 

With 9 imported cases in quarantine, that leaves 153 cases in the general population outside Samut Sakhon. Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces are becoming more of a problem, maybe it (and Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan) should join the likes of Chonburi and Rayong with red zone status?

Also disappointing that Banglamung had 4 cases after none the day before. Pesky gambling dens and breweries, lol.

They probably stop testing when they get to the 200/300 a day mark....oh yes that will do for today we start again tommorow

The fact we have a consistent reporting of cases for this long suggests there is plenty of Covid around ...there maybe low testing, but thankfully low level hospitalisations suggests it's not a massive outbreak.

Yep, and the earth is flat. So, just consider it. It might be a bigger chance that you fall at the end of the world, before you contract Covid-19.

Don't believe a word of it - these numbers are far too even to be realistic 200-300 every day without limited testing

No exponential growth in numbers...a good sign.

No, thailand is one of about half of all the countries in the world that didn’t have a covid death yesterday. Same as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan etc etc 

 

Funny that. All those countries take it seriously and have had a lot of success. 
 

Most of the deaths have occurred in just ten countries. 
Anutin did try to warn them. 
 

Most cases are still in Samut Sakhon amongst Burmese workers and is locked down pretty hard. The bulk of the issue is probably there.

 

Bangkok seems to be consistent with between 20 to 40 cases per day. If it can hang in at those levels Thailand might just control the situation. 

They don't seem inclined to go for a hard lockdown - meaning they are pretty much okay with a low level of covid in society, and trying to control it. 

 

A hardcore lockdown and attempt to eradicate it doesn't appear on the cards.

It will simply be a hell of a run, with Covid-19 chasing you and jumping after you taking the fall with the grace of a Japanese kamikaze pilot.

287 new Covid-19 cases, most of them in Samut Sakhon

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported 287 new cases on Tuesday, including nine people testing positive in quarantine facilities.

 

Two Thais had flown back from the United States, one from the United Arab Emirates as well as a Taiwanese man from China, a Japanese businessman, two British people, an Indian man, and an Indonesian man from their respective countries.

 

Of the cases, 139 were exposed to the virus while visiting high-risk places. Provinces with two-digit cases are Bangkok (31) and Samut Sakhon (51).

 

Proactive testing led to 125 positive cases being found in Samut Sakhon (121 foreigners and four Thais)

In addition, the source of infection of 14 cases is still being sought in Rayong (2), Bangkok (1), Chonburi (9), and Samut Prakarn (2).

 

Meanwhile, 166 patients have recovered and been discharged.

 

The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand has increased to 10,834 – 8,659 of which were contracted domestically, including 2,964 found in proactive testing, and 2,175 were returnees. So far, 6,732 have recovered and been discharged, 4,035 patients are being treated in hospitals, while 67 have died.

 

According to Worldometer, as of midnight on Monday, the total number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 91.31 million (up by 578,421), 65.29 million have recovered, 24 million are active cases (108,804 in severe condition) and 1.95 million have died (up by 9,212).

 

Thailand ranks 128th on the global list of most cases, while the US tops the list with 23.14 million, followed by India 10.47 million, Brazil 8.13 million, Russia 3.42 million and the United Kingdom 3.11 million.

Do figures published by any Thai government ministry bare only a scant resemblance to reality?

But they are busy opening ICU equipped field hospitals with hundreds of beds for people who have "mild symptoms or none at all".  

 

I suppose it's so they can all have quick lie down before they go home to self isolate.

Looking after people who aren't really feeling ill or who don't know they have COVID as they are Asymptomatic.

 

What other possible reason could they be opening for?

 

There's no serious COVID problem in Thailand, is there. Not according to these government issued figures.

Almost all of today’s numbers are Thais

Correct, and the mental midgets will be praying for an increase so they can sound-off with " I told you so, what's what I expected" yada yada yada..... 

"including nine people testing positive in quarantine facilities" - I would be very much interested in the nationalities of these nine people and if all those required a RT PCR test prior departure.

I shall continue to trust those that see what they want me to see.

From there I shall see what I want to see.

And that shall be my truth, right or wrong.

.....could be worse. Could be other parts of the world where they still haven't a clue.
