With pandemic under control, officials press ahead with Pattaya rebrand

A leading figure in the hotel industry told the Thai media that now that the pandemic is easing it is time to press ahead with the rebranding of Pattaya.

Out is the old image of Pattaya being only about nightlife. In is the idea of Pattaya being a wholesome place for daytime activities.

A wholesome place for the Thais as no one is talking about foreign tourism any more in such stories, notes Thaivisa.

Chief of the eastern seaboard arm of the Thai Hotelier's Association Phisut Sae-khu said that signs were good that restrictions will be eased in Pattaya and the resort and Chonburi will soon be out of the red zone.

The message was clear that with 14 day quarantine either way soon to be scrapped Pattaya's color would change.

But not just that - along comes Pattaya as a horse of a different color, too, as the drive to rebrand the resort from it's old image to a new one continues, Phisut told Sophon Cable TV on Facebook.

He expects a big PR drive to woo back tourists (domestic of course) in the second quarter and Songkran.

He said that the drive should be to rebrand Pattaya not just as a nighttime destination but one that lives and breathes all day long.

He expects promotions especially from five star hotels to focus on this and their reasonably priced food menus.

He acknowledged that many small and medium size hotels had shut.

Large establishments were adjusting their business models for the future.

I think they should turn it into a children's day care centre in keeping with the pristine new image of Pattaya!

It will be turned into a "museum of Pattaya in its heyday" run by Ripleys for tour parties to walk up and down en-route between the monorail and the beach

The girls will be replaced with lifesize mannequins dressed in gaudy costumes

You will be able to take pictures with them as if they are sat on your lap

The Victoria pub will have a mechatronic drunk falling out of the door, getting back up and staggering back in every 2 minutes

Speakers from the "bars" will blare out "hansum man" and "where u come from" as the tour group passes by

If you stray too close to the bars a robotic arm tries to drag you in

The problem with rebranding Pattaya is the old will be replaced by what?

Pattayas Nature reserves, and many beautiful parks? Pattays historical temples and buildings? Pattays many museums and art galleries, How about that crystal clear ocean water?.....Need I go on.....

With pandemic under control

What a stupid headline

Not to worry.

The Missus heard on the Thai News that the government says if things go quickly, Thailand will be back to its "old normal' in THREE YEARS.    If things don't go quickly it'll take at least FIVE YEARS.

Yes I am having trouble comprehending how one headline today talks about "pandemic under control" with the next stating 'record single day infections'.

Wait a wile and then you can get the 'old Pattaya' lady service at Lazada.

COCO (Cash on Checking Out).

Become croupiers at new Chinese casinos?????

The future of Pattaya is unknown. That's why it is call the future. It hasn't happened. Those soothsayers who predict doom and gloom, as well as those forecasting bright lights and prosperity have something in common. I call it an interest of which they may have very little impact upon the outcome.

WHICH?

Let´s just explain this to them: The pandemic is not under control! Look at the number of new cases the last two days. Over 900 every day. Guess somebody missed the memo!

They will have to rebrand too, and make do with "reasonable priced" smaller catch.

The guy doing the announcing in good English tried to emphasize that these numbers were expected and not to be overly concerned over. Mostly asymptomatic cases in high density imported labour areas.

So, what are you trying to say? That asymptomatic cases doeas not spread the infection, or that a raise in daily infections found is a positive result that shows better control?

In Thailand these are groups who are not being permitted to jump on the Ekamai bus to Pattaya.

And while working and going to and from work, before they are discovered, they absolutely have no contact with other groups that do take the Ekkamai bus to Pattaya? Can oyu please comfirm that? ????

As of before it was about 300 cases per day, now 900. That means 3 times the risk. I do not call that better control.
