Once, before there was an immigration in Khon kaen, I went to Nong Kai with the Director of Khon Kaen technical college, who was an influential guy in town 15 years ago as I was getting hassled by an officer. He was in his white uniform with all medals as he was going to some official function there. The immigration officer told him(and his 3 assistants) basically to go away and smiled at me saying come back next month. This happened for 6 more months just to show me who was boss. Closet I've ever been to paying a motorcycle taxi driver 20,000 baht

They have always been helpful BUT nit picking I have pink card 

 

I would recommend you go with the flow and provide them with what they request

Very confusing post, very confusing, opened 8 years ago? I have been going there longer than that.

For the record I also have a pink ID and never use it or am asked to produce it, and giving back the blue house book pages and yellow book page is strange, (new rule), how else are they to confirm where I live ?

 

As usual nothing makes sense, just a lot of paper shuffling and lots of trees getting cut down for it, go figure.

In over 20 years I was never asked for a yellow book or ID card. 

I recommend yo all get together and make a formal complaint.

A few years ago the Head of the Royal Thai Police made a statement to the effect that foreigners in Bangkok were not expected to carry their passports on them. I have not seen any Immigration endorsement of that policy, for Bangkok or anywhere else.

Also I don't know if there are different rules for permanent expats (I assume you mean Residency Permit Holders) vs expats on "1 Year Extensions of Stay".

  I completed my last marriage extension in Nov. The same IO has processed each of the four. This year, he refuse to accept the Bangkok Bank 12 month deposit printout (which was what I used last year) and insisted I get an income letter from the US Embassy like last year, as he needed to know where my money comes from.

    I asked him to pull my last application and show me the Embassy letter he wanted, all the while knowing there wasn't one. Ten minutes later, he returned and thumbed thru the pages until he found a 12 month transfer summary, I downloaded from TransferWise, that he had told me was "no good, can't use" last year. He had also had 2 application packs from 2 Brits and showing me their personal financial statements. I was quick to point that they were for retirement extensions, not marriage.

   At this point, he started ignoring me and started speaking with my wife and several times waved his hand in face when I asked her what he was saying. At this point after 3 hours, I was <deleted> off and demanded to know the reason my application was being refused. He pulled out the bank statement dropped it on the table said "no good" and walked off back inside the building. 

    I got in my car, drove to the Bangkok Bank across the road. My wife explain that immigration was refusing to accept their statement. The bank teller asked us to take a seat, while he went into the bank managers glassed enclosed office. The manager made a phone and within 2 minutes we were told to go back to immigration. 

   When we got back to IM, an intern met us at the entrance, took the statement and we sat at the same outdoor table as before. Within 10 minutes the intern brought back the paperwork for our signatures. 15 minutes later, I was handed my passport with my extension stamp and new 90 day report date. The original IO a Captain, never showed his face after we returned from the bank.

Its been required in seversl districts now since about September of last year.

 

BKK required the Pink Card.....mine is slightly worn, and of course, they politely asked me to apply for a new one.

 

Several districts are taking it a step further, and demanding your house book (Tambien Baan) as more proof thsn your Pink Card, and of course, we must kill more trees and produce more signed copies.....

 

A very nice IO in Nonthonburi tells me The Landlord must involuntarily pay a tax of 800 baht per non thai renting a property from any property owner.

 

Apparently....the landlords are blowing off this tax, and Immigration is doing something anout it at our expense.

When I did a 90 day report, I was asked where my wife worked, I asked him what that had to do with a 90 day report, he then made a thing of studying my passport and said I was on a 25 day overstay, I gave him a right mouthful and he took me to see his boss, then just after that, said to me you come back in 90 days and handed me back my passport.

Is it the same officer that you delt with in the past? If there's more than one officer at your location can you speak with someone else? Personally I think most of these guys pull <deleted> out of thin air to give us a hard time if don't play the game and show up with a paid Thai agent.

Flew down for a weekend in Patti CM-UTP in December and pink card was accepted by both Lion air and Holiday Inn as ID.. Had my PP and DL with me just in case but no need.. When I applied for it our local Ampur lady said she didnt have any since nobody else had ever asked....not many farangs where I live. However she ordered some and I got it the following week.

I thought so too....   I think it is related to the need for there to be an ‘official translation’ of your name which has to be accurate. 

Thus, a photocopy of your passport along with the official translation which the MFA verify would be sufficient.

I guess the ‘Embassy Verified’ copy of your Passport adds a level of legality to the translation of your Passport because you are not leaving your passport behind with the MFA. 

 

One thing to be sure of: Ensure translation of your name (on the translation of your verified copy of your passport) is exactly the same as the Thai translation of your name on your Thai Marriage certificate. 

 

Any difference in the ‘official translation’ of your Thai name on different documents and it can lead to a headache down the road.

Au-contraire..  Works on domestic flight check-in, hotel check-in, ID for banks etc.

 

But, all that can be done with a passport if you carry your passport with you all the time. 

 

The yellow book saves time and money when needed Affirmation of Address documentation etc. 

 

Also opened a Bank account with the Yellow Book.

 

The Pink ID card was obtained when I got the Yellow book (took an extra 15 mins max).

Both Yellow book and Pink ID are not a necessity, but they are a convenience - thats all.

ooooh... that would have made my blood boil...  The key-board warrior in me is now suggesting I would have had his boss called in and made this officer apologise - A real stink I would have kicked up !!! 

 

(actually, not just key-board warrior - My Wife and I had a bad experience at an Amphur office with a rude officer, it resulted in phone calls from one of the bosses later on that evening to personally apologise).

 

Some will say walk away, you’ll never win, which is possibly true in some situations, so each situation must be judged on its individual merit. 

But, when people behave like that, immigration officer or not, they need to be called out. They do back down when they know they are wrong.

It's not that he started ignoring you.

 

It's just that he can't communicate in English at an intermediate level, that's why he started talking with your wife using Thai.

 

I have found that most Thai's English is only at an elementary grade 1 level limited to broken words.

 

Try imagining you trying to speak to a Thai who can't speak any English using Thai language at intermediate level...You will be at a loss for words.

 

Many foreigners don't understand this and lose their cool. I've seen this situation at many banks and immigration office all the time.

Some local district offices absolutely refuse yellow bok requests for foreigners. I went and first the story was oh you need to be married and GF said OK in 6 months if we come back married we can get ? The older lady sitting in the corner started barking something in Thai which the GF later told me was, no way no how, forget it.I confirmed this with my married neighbor who went to same office and was told sorry we don't do that here. I couldn't care less unless Imm offices start to require something impossible to obtain.

Saying nobody will accept it is not correct.  Its wrong and it needs to be corrected.

 

Last week I checked into a local Hotel for a couple of nights. They asked for my passport and I handed them my Thai ID instead. They were perfectly happy with that.

 

I am not saying thou that is a reason to get an ID,  ... just the contrary ... I would say you do not need it.  BUT I am also saying some organisations DO accept it in lieu of a passport.

Same as some accept driving license. Your passport number is on your driving license
