Goodbye Pattaya! Almost everyone in the entertainment industry has left - apartment complexes empty

Thai media Siam Rath went down to Pattaya to investigate after the words "La Laew Pattaya" - Goodbye Pattaya - were trending on Facebook site Pattaya Talk.

It appeared that everyone was loading their possessions onto pick-ups and heading back to the villages.

There were supportive comments but there was no hiding the abject depression.

Pattaya, once packed full of tourists  and life especially in the high season is now deserted.

To confirm this Siam Rath went to the resort and saw that many apartment complexes were for sale or lease - some didnt have a single person staying in them any more.

Phasakorn Suntharot - the owner of Suntharot Apartment - said that his tenants started to leave during the first wave of the pandemic. Then just when it looked like there was to be a recovery along came the second wave.

His tenants were all people who worked in the entertainment industry and they have just gone home to save money.

He has just one room rented out now.

Pattaya has nothing left, he lamented.

When I go to Pattaya these days (about once a month), I stay at a typical Thai apartment building just off third road. A courtyard of 3 buildings of 4 floors each. I'd say out of the rooms there, maybe 20% are actually occupied - at most. Typically these big rooms with air con, reasonable bathroom size and rear balcony cooking area, rent for 4,000 Baht per month. Ideal for two or more ladies to share. More luxury and expensive or poorly located places are just completely deserted.

Once covid-19 has been completed eradicated, Pattaya's 'family resort' will return back to its glory days.

Trust you don't mind waiting several years.

The realization that the vaccination of farang in their home country is not the only part of reviving tourism to Thailand.

The vaccine has to roll out across Thailand also, before vaccinated farang will be allowed to visit, and obviously Thai's here don't have confidence in their government to expedite that.

To paraphrase another thread:

Apparently it's "not falling" because while property's being sold at lower prices, it's only a small amount compared the stuff sitting unsold.

(I kid you not.)

'Entertainment industry' makes it sound almost legitimate and legal, which it's not of course, according to the 1996 law on prostitution.

The elite and their puppet master have 100 % confidence that the governments rollout of vacine, to them, will have the highest priority. For the other 98% of the population I suspect they always have been and always will be expendable in the current culture.

Perhaps they could promote it on a Ghost Town theme, just add a bit of tumble weed. ????

Would now be a good time to take the family to the world class family resort?
