The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) has warned against the boiling of tap water to reduce salinity, saying that the best method is to use reverse osmosis filtering of brackish water.

The Anti-Fake News Centre has checked with the MWA and was told that boiling of brackish tap water at 100oC will not reduce the salt content, but will cause the water to evaporate, leaving the water even saltier.

As a temporary relief measure, the MWA has been providing free drinking water to the public at all its branch offices.  Also, the MWA is keeping households in Bangkok and suburbs updated on the condition of tap water and about when it is good for consumption and when it turns brackish, which is related to high and low tides.

Time the MWA got it's act together and sorted out this mess.

Even though one can, I don't think many drink tap water. Only cooking and ablutions

I only drink cold water bottled, but here in Pattaya I boil the tap water for hot beverages. Is that a no, no?

The salty water problem is in Bangkok.

In Pattaya the tap water is the usual top quality stuff.

No problem with the water in  Nonthaburi (Bang Yai) so far. It is drinkable but highly chlorinated so we get bottled water delivered for drinking/cooking. Delivery price same as buying 6 Litre bottle at 7.

Paying 40 baht or more for a few liters is costly. Thais for the most part would try using tap

I seem to remember a certain faux Prime minister telling his subjects to boil salty water last year or the one before, I don't recall him getting hit with a fake news charge. ????

This report should go hand in hand with the other one stating Bangkok is one of the healthiest cities in the world.

yes indeed, including obesity and pollution, two of the parameters in the "healthy city" report.

My gf gets 5 liters of water (usually 2 at a time) in a large jug from the 5 baht reverse osmosis machine in the building, then while she's doing other things boils it and puts it in 1.5 liter bottles. Tastes fine.

So those that drink tea or coffee are drinking more salty water?

Do you really need an explanation beyond how boiling salt water will remove moisture so salt gets more concentrated in the remaining liquid?
