The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed three key advancements on Thailand’s behalf in the fight against human trafficking, with close cooperation with the United States, prior to the release of the 2020 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report in June.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Tanee Sangrat revealed that Thailand and the United States have been coordinating closely on anti-human trafficking operations, which have been made part of the national agenda by the Thai government.

He said Thailand has achieved 3 milestones in the fight against human trafficking, namely on prosecution and law enforcement, victim protection and prevention.

On law enforcement, Mr. Tanee said Thailand and the US have set up a joint working committee on information exchange, as well as increasing operations against sexual harassment of children online.

On victim protection, the Thai authorities have rescued some 140 trafficked victims, protected some 50 witnesses and provided necessary help and compensation for victims.

On prevention, Mr. Tanee highlighted the amendments to related laws that will give legal protection to migrant workers in the fishing industry.

The United States is expected to release the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report for 2020 in late-June this year. On 10th February, the Ambassador of Thailand to the US in Washington DC, held discussions with the Acting Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons Kari Johnstone, where he stressed Thailand’s commitment to human trafficking suppression.

Advancements:

1: Close eyes

2: Deny problem

3: Disappear anyone who asks questions

This is right up there with "solving Bangkok's traffic problem in 60 days", and "what illegal gambling dens?"

Merely a drop in the ocean. They need to deploy some of those high tech BMW's.

We don't want to mention where key elements of this industry are located, what group they are associated with, and how powerful and connected they are.

FBI has staff here, this, and drugs, and financial are priorities.

Assume a lot of cooperation involves human trade from Thailand to the U.S. a la https://www.startribune.com/alleged-boss-in-sophisticated-sex-trafficking-ring-extradited-from-belgium-to-minnesota/600024199/

I would assume that most trafficking involves neighboring countries!

Tell that to the Canning Factory Workers locked in their Factories and Living Quarters for at least the last 2 weeks

Of course, but the U.S. and the FBI have little interest in that!

I'm always somewhat skeptical when I read these stories as to whether or not the Thailand Government are engaging in a real attempt to crack down, or more just as a paper exercise to keep the US Government onboard.

We all know there is no prostitution in Thailand, the  Government has told us. Certainly no slave labor in the fishing industry, the Government has told us.

So the idea that they are really concerned with international sex trafficking somehow seems hard to believe!

This is only one-half of the problem. The second is prosecution & deportation of genuine refugees from war & persecution such as Palestinians & Rohingya.
