People working at Walking Street in Pattaya have been offered free COVID-19 tests, health officials announced earlier this week.

The precautionary move is aimed at preventing any further outbreaks of the virus.

On Wednesday, officials from the Ministry of Public Health and Pattaya  Police inspected venues along Walking Street.

The inspection was to ensure that social distancing and other precautionary measures, such as temperature checks, hand cleaning and mask wearing were being properly enforced.

All was found to be above board, Manager reported.

Health officials said that  anyone working in the entertainment industry in Pattaya can get a COVID-19 test free of charge. If they then test positive, treatment will also be free of charge.

Meanwhile, Pattaya mayor Sontaya Kunplome said he had received the request from the city’s bar industry to extend opening hours to midnight.

He said while the COVID-19 situation in the city is under control, officials did not want to do anything that could increase the chances of another wave of infections.

He asked bar owners in the city to be patient.

Of course, it was! As there is no prostitution to be found in Walking Street, would in the world can they find to crack down on?

It's all about Covid now, forget STDs, as the risk is eliminated by face masks and two meters social distance...:whistling:

However a good idea with free tests and treatment...????

Tests don't directly prevent an outbreak; they can have a mitigating effect on the spread. What people want and need is a vaccine.

so, do the teams have accompanying Police etc - to personally escort each and every Tested individual back to their home/s?

 - otherwise it will all be a case of get-tested and straight back to work...

 - becoming a pseudo rolling curfew ????

I imagine most 'employees' will not take it for fear of losing another two weeks income

So right. It is only Covid that anyone fears now. My mate got lucky when he had one of the early tests:

They want to extend the opening times of the night venues. I think we got the message already. In respect of precautionary measures. I never go to the Walking Street bars so I can not talk about them. But they should not forget that there are other areas with bars too. And what I see at the open air bars in Central Pattaya has nothing to do with precautionary measures. But the customers going there have to decide themselves if they want to risk to go there. Obviously it is not possible to be in bars with masks and social distancing - what I understand. The people want to drink and they want to have conversations and sometimes they don't want to go home alone - otherwise they wouldn't go there. Corona - doesn't fit well into this picture.

I think HIV testing would be more profitable in these venues!

Of course everyone in the bars were sitting 2m apart. Almost impossible to do.
