PHUKET: Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanawisit, who also serves as the Minister of Commerce Meeting, was told at a meeting held at Phuket Provincial Hall on Saturday (Mar 27) that the average income in Phuket had plunged to B1,900.

Mr Jurin explained to the meeting that his visit to Phuket was to discuss guidelines for economic rehabilitation preparation measures for Phuket, plans to push for mass vaccination of residents on the island, and plans organizing tourism promotion activities as the country moves toward reopening to tourists.

During his last visit in December, Mr Jurin faced a hostile welcome to Phuket over the lack of support from the central government to help people in Phuket.

Well, there are no more tourists who could be ripped off. How was that plan outlined in another article... Safe, sustainable, not taking advantage of tourists bla bla bla...? Never mind. ????

Did you know that if you click on the link, you will be able to read the whole article?

Let me help you....

The average income had now fallen to only B1,900 per person per month, he said.

In fact it is lazy Thai journalism - quoting a figure for income without stating the time interval is not information. it's rubbish!

While in Pattaya some restaurants are still in desperate need of kitchen and service staff.

Figure of THB 1'900/person/month is not even indicative as out of context and/or comparison!

No indication of how they came up with the 1,900 figure. Are they counting as 0 the income of all those who have left? In that case the remainers (sorry for triggering phrase for some Brits) would have a lot higher average income. Also, this is a classic case where the median  (middle of the income distribution) would be more informative, since the big bosses' salaries are so much greater than what the folks at the cutting edge earn.

Telephone the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok and ask how to get to No 1 in the world to vaccinate their population like Israel has. Israel managed this before the richest, most developed countries in the world. Ask them how and if they tell you then copy.

Anyone living in, and at all conversant with Thai practice, would be aware that wages here are always discussed in monthly terms. There was no confusion for the vast majority reading the article.

Some lazy readers are always too quick to seek out any petty reason to criticize.

In developed countries the time interval would be quoted. Citizens from these countries deserve such a reference point. Do you suggest "guessing" is the way to go forward?

How many times have I read that tourism was/is a small percentage of the Thai economy, Phuket, Samui, Phang Nga, Bangkok, he has a few other places to visit to look at the small percentage. How much of this small percentage goes back to Isarn? Scams etc are on the internet now, including in Chinese. What is plan B? Phuket has seen it heyday of tourism. How many Chinese visit hookers and most Thai hookers will not go with "Asian" men. Hhmm. Plan B.

No doubt average incomes are way down, among the working class. Does the deputy PM care? Have these guys ever given any indication they care about the well being of the masses?
