New Thai girl friend (TGF): shows me a few photos of BKK’s tallest building - with a skywalk - this morning and asks if we can go there today. 

 

As we are both visitors to BKK, I google it and say ok - especially as it has that skywalk - and is situated only about 6 or 7 BTS stations away. 

 

We arrive, after she took a thousand selfies of her walking towards / standing in front of the building. (Thinking to myself “crikey, she must sure love tall buildings”).

 

SHE PAYS the entry fees and we take the ultra-fast lift. (She’s still taking photos and filming non-stop in the lift of the quite impressive wrap-around video being shown). 

 

Lift doors open. She takes one step out into the lift lobby, sees the our tremendous height from a distant window about 50 metres away and immediately sits on the carpet -  10 cm away from the lift door. 

 

Me: W T F  are you doing???!!!

 

TGF: I’m scared of heights. I can’t go any closer to a window. 

 

Me: Haha. Very funny. It was YOUR idea to come here and besides, it’s April fools day tomorrow, not today. C’mon get up, that view over there looks fantastic. 

 

TGF: I’m not getting up. I’m petrified. You go explore. I’ll wait here. 

 

Me: F F S .... YOU CANT SIT HERE!! Get the f@&! up and at least walk over to that coffee shop (located near the windows) and wait there. 

 

TGF: repeats her last comments. 

 

People and staff all now looking at us. 

 

Security: W T F is she doing sitting on the floor next to the lift door???

 

Me: mate, your Thai and she’s Thai. You two work it out. I’m going.  

 

I went and did the skywalk on my own and collected TGF an hour later... from the same piece of carpet. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I think you are quite lucky that she stayed there and you didn't drag her to the Skywalk Rooftop View.  Cleaning the brown stains from the transparent floor would have been a smelly job...

the icing on the cake would have been to tell her that she'd be falling 'almost' as quickly in the Lift on the way down, as would if  she'd fallen thru the glass ????  

 

but tell her afterwards...

She sounds a keeper

When they opened a couple of years ago, the joke was that you could buy a domestic AirAsia ticket and reach an altitude of 10,000 m cheaper than the entry fee.

Had a hotel room a few floors up with a glass floor balcony, that was enough for me!!

 

You should have walked over to the first Thai's girl/s you saw and said "hello."  She would have been up like a flash and joined you.  ????

Their whole life is a selfie / facebook parallel universe. I doubt they ever really look at or enjoy any of these experiences or trips. Thailand....people who are showing off, and people who are jealous of the people showing off

I have to disagree with you OMF.

 

Thai logic is "Money Number One."  This makes Thai's soooo predicable. 

 

Once you understand their motivation, you understand their logic, and then it's fun to play mind games with them.  

 

The almighty baht is at the core of society here.

It’s every woman’s motivation wherever they originate and not unique to here. 
Ask the millions of guys who fled to Thailand as a result of it. 
 

Any woman who self indulges on so many selfies and then makes a complete a.rse of herself spells out one thing.

She can’t get enough attention. RUN!

I take it you have never sat on a bridge over a ravine having ropes fasten a piece of elastic to your legs. If you had you may understand why a good idea he previous night can suddenly not be quite the same, but you are at a point where there is no way back ????

......only In some cases the elastic is tied round your balls.

I disagree with that. Showing off is number one in Thailand. Money only enables it. Why they never have any. Thai Chinese money number one

On a positive note.   If your TGF runs away and you decide you want to look for her (not sure why you would) it narrows the search area. No tall buildings or skywalks.

Money Number One so they can show off.  The money comes first.  

I could never figure out the whole 'selfie' thing myself.  Nothing like putting your big head in a photo of a nice view to spoil it, eh?   I mean, if you take a photo of somewhere, that is proof that you were there. You don't need to insert your fake smiling countenance in every shot.
