A post on Facebook tugged at the heartstrings of Thai netizens.

A mother reported that her child had been desperately looking for the beloved family pet cat Hurjun who was missing.

It was 9pm when the child - in tears - was stuttering and sobbing:

"Mummy.....it's a s...s....snake"

Yes Hurjun - who they liked to dress up as a sheriff, was dinner for a huge python behind the house.

Daily News were one of many Thai media who picked up on the Facebook post.

The poster said RIP to the departed moggie and thanked the snake catchers who came to deal with the situation.

Take better care of your pets.  They should not be left outside unattended, just like children.

I would agree....but I know a few people who have 'house' cats......never been outside in their lives.....does not seem right to me.

Many countries are making laws against letting cats roam free as they kill too much animals.

Don't know how many can remember this couple, Armand and Michaela Dennis and their show  'On Safari'.

People were writing into the BBC to say that it was terrible that lions and other big cats were eating the lovely antelopes etc. They wanted people to 'do something to stop it'

Nature, red in tooth and claw.

I had to look them up. I thought you were suggesting they were eaten by lions or something like that.

Quite true, because they are indiscriminate killers and will kill wildlife, mainly because they can, not for food.

At least they didn’t have the snake killed!

Waiting for it to fatten up after digesting the cat ????

I don’t think the cat will do much in terms of fattening a huge python. For the snake this was a mere snake! ????

Was the cat asleep ? Cats can catch birds, mice, speedily run from dogs and climb trees. Python is not the fastest of creatures

Out of interest: name a country.

There are more places. I might have been wrong calling it countries. But more and more places especially those close to nature are trying to set up laws keeping cats inside.

"I Ate the Sheriff!' Sounds like a good song title to me. Sorry for the toddler.

May I have the snake for some time to clear up the Soi, please ?

A few months ago, a cobra bit the neighbours dog. Cobra survived.

I had to throw a rock at one of the cats in the village that was teasing a python.

We didnt have to deal with this in Cannock, i'll tell you.

Hypnotised by the snake.

Cats kill everything that moves just for fun.  I'm with the python on this one.

I'm a cat person; dogs should be on the menu - they kill motorbike riders.
