Has anyone had a triple bypass in any of the hospitals in khon kaen? If so I would like to know how much it costs and the usual details ,recovery time etc.

Ask the Hospital. Are stents not an option? Much cheaper and no surgery required.

If your need for a by-pass is caused by a plaque build up, then you might want to look into using nanoparticles instead.   Nanoparticles are still in the early stages of development, and may not be ready of use on humans,...but it's probably worth looking into.

Unless of course the Baker or the Butcher had a car repaired for the same problem that you have, and could share how much it cost them.

Went into a US hospital for triple by-pass in 2005 (came out with 5 by-passes). At the time I was covered by my employee health insurance so it cost me $1000.00 and the rest was covered. 2015 in Chiang Mai had a heart attack, stent placement and two additional angioplasties 411,000 baht (included a temporary stroke at the end of a week from a bit of floating clot ... yikes,). Here is my point. The by-passes were excellent and trouble free for 10 years but over time the resulting scar tissue at the by-pass sites caused some restriction on blood flow. My best advice to you is read the current medical information concerning stents versus by-pass surgery. Gallows humor ... waking up in recovery after the by-passes, my surgeon assured me all went great and I was good for ten years. Ten years? I want a life time guaranty ... he repeated ten years (could be longer). Seems the veins used for the by-passes are not as rugged as the original arteries and are known to weaken over time. Like I said, check with the current medical information.

I recently had a pacemaker fitted, ok so not major surgery, but had it done at the Queen Sirikit Hospital, no complaints.
It would be asking them for their price.

 

Double-bypass in Bumrungrad in 2018 cost my insurance THB1.2M-1.3M - they had to keep me in a few days ahead of the operation after they found stents were not an option as both were 95% blocked. After op it was about 10/12days before i got out

Friend had 3 stents at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. 300,000 THB and kept overnight.

Stents are inserted percutaneously. No surgery involved.

 

However with triple vessel disease, if it is confirmed that 3 vessels are >70% occluded, bypass is usually better. Especially if the LAD is one of the 3 vessels.

Thank you for your reply,I HAVE 90% blockage in three arteries, i am currently living in Scotland with my Thai family,unable to travel due to pandemic. My problem is the surgeon here will not preform the surgery because i have an allergy to Nickel and Cobalt.Anyway you have given me a contact and i will proceed,unsure whether Thai surgeon will do it,in the USA they do these operations as normal. This is my first time on this forum ,a little unsure how it works.Anyway many thanks.

Out of interest the problem is with the wire used to close you up?  Do they use a different material in the US?  Just for reference, I had a triple bypass, 2015, Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.  THB1.2M (insurance).

I do not know what material they use,but i do know they do not test for allergies. Even if they know the patient has this allergy ,they will operate, up to 20% of the population has this allergy and i find this amazing in this day and age they have not got alternatives.

There are alternatives.  Ethibiond and similar suture material. Ask your surgeon about this. And/or ask a different surgeon. I cannot understand why your surgeon does nto suggest an alternative, with >90% blockage in 3 vessels something needs to be done. Demand a referral to a hospital/surgeon able to close the sternum with Ethibond or similiar non-metallic material.

The surgeon is not only concerned about closing the sternum it is everything containing nickel and cobalt, all his equipment and machine with nickel and cobalt parts circulating my blood,i find this way over the top .he is the top surgeon so my options are limited,he has referred me for stent although the doc says he only intends to insert one,well ,is this a patch up job?

The best place to have any operation or other procedure dealing with the cardiovascular system is The Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast here in Khon Kaen.  They know their stuff and have an excellent staff of cardiologists.  And their prices seems to be in the reasonable range.

 

You need to go to the Heart Center and direct the staff at the entrance (emergency) to direct you to the Premium Clinic, which is really set up for Thais who are government employees and "self-pay farangs."

 

You can go to their websites and get quite a bit of information if you want to check them out before scheduling a consultation or initial tests to assess them with your specific medical issues.  For example, my first visit, met with several cardiologists and a surgeon, had a ECG and an Echocardiogram.  This laid the groundwork for more serious testing and assessments.  Cost - 4,750 baht.  A follow up consultation - 350 baht.

ok,that,s sounds fine,have tried phoning but no joy,they kept transferring me and in the end i ended the call.I will go in person when this pandemic settles. could you find out what cost triple bypass starts at,i am in Scotland now with my Thai family but will travel as soon as allowed.

I had a quadruple bypass at Queen Sirikit Hospital in Khon Kaen in September 2017.

The costs, 37,000 baht for Coronary Angiograph, 62,000 baht so I didn't have to go on a surgery waiting list, the doctors and staff perform the surgery on their days off for this fee, and 264,000 for the surgery plus 23 days in hospital and 1 month take home medicine.

The 23 days in hospital is a lot longer than normal because I had some complications.

This was way cheaper than I was quoted at Bangkok hospital Khon Kaen.

and stent raises the same problem .

 

I'm still unclear how you think being  in Thailand will solve this problem? IMO you have a better chance of finding a surgeon experienced in handling this over there.

you can't do anything by phone with a govt hospital, that is one of the inconveniences.

 

A few posts up someone reports on it costing 264k for a stay that included complications. So I think without complications, 150 - 200k. With complications, can go to as much as 1 million if really bad/prolonged.

 

If you have already had angiogram (as I assume you must if the blockage is confirmed) bring the CD of it with you otherwise they'll insist on doing it again which adds to cost and delay

The hospital treating me is the No.1 heart specialist in this country,the surgeon who assessed me is a professor,the head of the surgery. In the medical profession over here it would be highly unlikely any surgeon would take this on,in the event during the operation if anything went wrong ,that doctors career would be over.Thai doctors ,i think would preform this surgery ,provided i accepted the risks and paid up front. i have a Thai wife and family and have lived over there for 3 years,i had intended to retire there only this happened as well as Covid so things have been difficult

Brilliant for you and most helpful information thanks. My Thai Mother-in-Law is 76 and has various conditions including only one kidney and Parkinson's Disease. We convinced her to go private and she went several times to Bangkok Hospital (actually in Bangkok). However, she now goes to Queen Sirikit Hospital in Khon Kaen and insists it's better!
