TCC, 40 CEOs discuss vaccine alternatives

BANGKOK (NNT) - The private sector will order 30 million more COVID-19 vaccine doses, with the intention of inoculating at least 70 percent of the Thai population. Private firms are ready to provide human resources and technology to facilitate vaccine distribution, so as to improve vaccine access and enable the economy to move forward.

Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), Sanan Angubolkul, said today that the chamber held a meeting with chief executive officers (CEOs) of 40 major companies today (Apr 20), to discuss the vaccine distribution plan in an effort to administer up to 50,000 doses per day in Bangkok.

The TCC and its networks are divided into four teams. The first team supports vaccine distribution by providing venues, human resources, volunteers and information technology (IT) equipment. The team has already cooperated with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and has prepared 10 locations in the first phase. Participating firms include Central Group, Siam Cement Group (SCG), The Mall, Siam Piwat, Asiatique, Lotus’s, Big C and True Digital Park. Resolutions should be made with the BMA by April 27. The team will look into mobile vaccination units in the next phase.

The second team oversees communication, and informs the public about the vaccines and places to receive them. It recognizes that there are people who refuse to be vaccinated because they are not properly informed. The government’s Mor Prom (Doctor’s Ready) system will also be set up by the end of this month to facilitate the vaccination program. Users can make appointments for the shots. The system receives support from companies, such as Google, LINE and Facebook.

The third team oversees technology, to improve the registration process and the tracking system and to issue a vaccination certificate. Many companies are involved, with International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) leading the operation.

The fourth team, comprising government agencies and private hospitals, is responsible for procuring additional vaccines. The team will look into the demand for alternative vaccines, to reduce the burden of the government. The team is led by the Private Hospital Association Thailand. Today, the meeting resolved to order 30 million more doses, to cover 70 percent of the population.

Other alternative vaccines for Thailand include Moderna and Pfizer from the USA, Sinopharm and CanSino Biologics from China, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin from India and Sputnik V from Russia. Private companies say they are ready to pay for the doses to be given to almost 1 million of their employees, to ease the government’s burden.

Lucky for Thais there is some competence outside of the government.

is there any more glaring example of this government's failure in this regard ? (and an added one of MANY overall?)

So they finally got tired of Anutin.  That may be the first real progress towards vaccinating the public.

Sorry, what an idiot.

You can't distribute what doesn't exist.

math isn't my best subject, but these numbers seem off, to me.  Thailand has upwards of 70 million citizens plus foreigners living here.  except for the J&J vaccine, all of them require 2 jabs so in round numbers, Thailand should be looking for 140-200 million doses.

the 30 million mentioned in the article would vaccinate less than 1/4 of the residents.  I don't think the numbers add up.

Great that they have plans how to distribute the vaccines. They just overlooked that they don't have the vaccines. These people seem just as clueless as the government.

They are still talking about it too.Just formed 4 committees & all sounds good (on paper)

But have they actually placed an order for one dose.....NO

It's good to see Thai businessmen supporting the import of vaccines as the government drags its feet.  Hopefully these private CEOs and Chamber of Commerce member have enough clout to push the government into action.

Not sure I understand this, or maybe I missed something here.

Are the private hospitals ordering an additional 30 million in addition to the government's 60 million?

If 70 million people in Thailand ( assume excluding the 200,000 expats) 70 x 2 shots of vaccines is 140 million doses.

But the 30 million being procured by the PHAT will cover 70% of the population.

Maybe they are using this formula for doses vs population optimization 5555555

Prayut and his minions have no interest in getting the population vaccinated they have shown that all along they like it just the way it is

Covid is the gift that keeps giving for them, they have zero interest in reopening the country and care nothing for tourism or the serfs that lose out

The 'good' people have now had their jabs, they have rolled over and shown their belly to their CCP masters through Sinovac, made a good wedge of cash from it whilst making the right noises, I dare say there will be a good top up to the trough from the private sector jabs too

Win, win, win, oink, oink!!!

Cant be that bad

Great news.  Just what they're doing in the US.  Getting privates businesses to help with the mass vaccination program.

Congrats!

They are, overall, probably more likely to be effective in obtaining and delivering vaccines, be they Chinese, Russian, European or American than the collection of blundering monopoly protecting buffoons who are currently creating the utter cluster#### we are watching!
